Position Overview

Position Overview:

Position Objective:  Perform annual statutory inspections, PM's, pre-trip inspections & all general repairs. Perform repairs to physical damage ranging from minor to major in nature.  

 

Essential Duties: (considering job knowledge, job environment, effort, manipulative skill, judgement, safety knowledge & responsibility) 

Comprehend & follow written and oral instructions. 

Perform all pre-trip functions / inspections. 

Perform all functions of scheduled PM's & annual inspections to trailers or dollies. 

Properly and legibly fill out repair orders when required. 

Demonstrate proficiency and safe use of all shop tools & equipment including ladders, scaffolds, jacks, stands, wheel dolly, drills, saws, rivet guns, welders & torches, etc. 

Effectively use personal hand tools required to perform job functions. 

Demonstrate technical skills required to effectively make minor to major repairs to any area / component of a trailer. 

Use the shop computer with TMT Mechanic Workstation Software for preparing & completing repair / work orders. 

Must be proficient in the safe effective use of electric welders & cutting torches. 
 

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to complete repairs that my require reaching, bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, crouching, and balancing.

Must be capable of lifting tractor brake drums – approximately 75 lbs.

Must be able to work off a ladder and under a trailer on a creeper on a daily basis.

Must have the ability to accurately read gauges and dials.

Must be able to distinguish colors.

Must meet or exceed the medical requirements of the U.S.D.O.T.

Must be able to move, operate, lift and store specialized equipment that includes, but is not limited to welding equipment, hand tools, shop machines and power tools.

Must be able to enter and exit the vehicles cab with entry and exit achieved with the assistance of various configurations of steps and handholds.

 

Other Requirements:

Must be able to read and comprehend shop manuals.

Must skillfully use micrometers, torque wrenches, measuring tapes, volt-ohm meters, battery load testers, charging systems test equipment, compression and vacuum gauges.

Must legibly and accurately complete repair orders.

Must be willing to move into different departments to keep the company running in an efficient operating manner.  (This may require a shift change.)

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. 

 

Training Requirements:

Must be willing to participate in training classes that are given by the company or requested by the company.

Must be willing to take tests to provide management with information to be used for management and classification. (These tests may be written, practical, or oral.)

Must meet the inspector qualification requirement required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations article 396.19.

 

Tool, Equipment & Material Requirements:

Must possess hand tools required to perform all mechanical functions of a Mechanic Trailer I up to and including 1-1/4” sizes.

 

$25.74 Per Hour

 

Schedule:

Monday-Friday  2pm-10pm

Work Shift

8 Hr non-rotating shift, Hrs fall to in punch day, Observed Calendar, shift starts PM
