Summary This position will be assigned to the Equestrian Center, JBSA Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX. This position is a regular part time position with 20 guaranteed hours per week and may work up to 40 hours per week. Employee will be scheduled as needed. Employees appointed to a Regular category position are eligible for benefits. Responsibilities Works cooperatively with the Equestrian Center Manager to run the day-to-day operations of the Equestrian Program. The instructor will coordinate and facilitate year round riding lessons and activities for children and adults with verifying abilities. The instructor will work with the Center staff to develop new activites which would include holiday and weekend programs and MWR/FSS special events. Instruct participants in riding horses. Work with all seats and levels of riders, to include jumping. Organizes classes, lesson plans, determines skill and knowledge levels of participants. Keeps horses clipped and schooled and keeps tack room clean, organized and in working order. Responsible for preparation of horses and cooling down. Assists with overseeing and maintenance of the facility where the horses are cared for and can be required to assist with private owner boarders. OR Experience that provided evidence of the ability to instruct students in the use of equipment, principles, or practices of the subject or occupation. This experience may have been gained as a teacher or instructor, in on-the-job supervision or instruction of subordinates or fellow workers; or in work involving application of the principles, practices, and techniques of the occupation or subject matter field of the position to be filled. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's): You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: 1. The ability to safely teach a group lesson of at least three students at a time with a maximum of six students. 2. The ability to complete all components of a lesson in no more than 75 minutes. 3. Ability to effectively schedule a minimum of 2-hour lesson blocks per day worked. 4. Ability to safeguard and handle cash, processing payments with minimal errors. 5.
