Position Summary:

Core-Mark is seeking an experienced and innovative Transaction Tax Manager to join our team. The Core-Mark tax department is a team of highly skilled tax professional committed to personal, professional and organizational growth. We operate in a fast-paced growth-oriented business environment.

Reporting to the Director - Tax Operations, the Transaction Tax Manager will manage a team and will be responsible for all aspects of Canadian and US transaction tax compliance. You will participate in tax research, tax compliance, tax audits, process improvements, and other department projects as assigned.

Work Location and Travel: This is a full-time position based in Denver, CO, with option for hybrid work upon completion of requisite training. This position will require 25% travel to Canada and US locations.

Compensation: $90,000 - 120,000 annually + bonus potential!

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsible for overseeing the accurate and timely preparation and filing of US and Canadian sales and excise tax returnsResponsible for reviewing and approving tax compliance working papers and account reconciliationsEngage, mentor and train the team by building trust, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunitiesProvide tax expertise and audit support to Core-Mark's US and Canadian warehouse personnelIdentify and mitigate tax risksConduct tax research as required, and prepare technical memoranda where appropriateMonitor federal and state legislative developments and perform analyses to evaluate the impact to Core-Mark's operationsDevelop and maintain strong working relationships with warehouse and corporate personnelEffectively communicate with internal staff, taxing authorities and outside service providers on tax compliance mattersProactively seek opportunities for process improvement, data management opportunities and other efficienciesAssist with the review and approval of US property tax returnsParticipate in Tax Department projects as assignedPotential for travel - within Canada and USPerform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Bachelor Degree with emphasis in Accounting, Finance or Tax

Minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in public accounting and/or corporate tax department handling high volume indirect tax compliance

Proven work experience leading a team as a Tax Manager or Tax Team Lead

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required

Ability to travel 25% to US and Canada locations, maintaining an active passport

Preferred Qualifications

Master Degree in Taxation

Experience with SAP (or similar ERP systems), Alteryx and an aptitude to learn new software

Accounting Designation - CPA (US or Canada)

Excise Tax experience is a plus
