This position administers Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) treatments as directed by psychiatrist to people suffering from severe, treatment-resistant depression. This FDA-approved treatment is life-changing for many patients who experience full relief from depression or significant improvement after years of suffering. This position requires the individual to develop relationships with patients over their gradual recovery of 35 treatment sessions. Most treatments last 20-30 minutes and are typically scheduled hourly. This position requires accurate and timely documentation of the treatments in the electronic health record. The incumbent will work in a team with psychiatrists who prescribe and oversee TMS and other TMS specialists.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: 2 years’ healthcare experience required. Experience with insurance billing and coding practices required. Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems required.
EDUCATION: High School education, GED equivalent or HiSET preferred. National Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program required within 6 months of hire date. Maintains knowledge, skills, and abilities through ongoing education and on-the-job training. Required to complete and pass annual competency training. Ability to attend TMS training and obtain TMS certification.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: Current National Certified Medical Assistant designation required within 6 months of hire date, valid and current Basic Life Support certification and re-certification every two years. Required to complete and pass annual competency training. Ability to attend TMS training and obtain TMS certification.
This position provides clerical support with prior authorizations requests, insurance verification and tracking, claim denial follow-up, appointment scheduling and co-pay collection. Tasks with insurance companies and clerical support duties include but are not limited to:
Processes insurance prior authorizations for TMS treatments efficiently and ensures timely approvals; Effective communication with insurance companies to secure coverage for patients; manages patient insurance information, including verifying eligibility and collecting co-pays; tracks and maintains accurate insurance records specific to TMS services; trouble shoot and resolve insurance claim denials; stay up-to-date on insurance coding and billing practices related to TMS therapy; assists with scheduling TMS appointments to optimize clinic workflow and patient access; other administrative support as needed
