Transformation SWAT Project Manager

About the position

The Transformation SWAT Project Manager is a member of an elite SWAT Team specializing in rapid issue assessment and tactical solution triage of business challenges where tactical execution is required. The HP Solutions Transformation Office is establishing a small SWAT Team to assist with the multitude of small tactical challenges we are identifying through our transformation initiatives requiring tactical resolution. Members of this team will be involved in multiple parts of our business depending on where we are having the most issues.

A typical assignment starts with an identified problem, an escalation, or a known ‘hot spot’ in our business where we need a senior person sent in to help stabilize things. The first things our SWAT teams need to do is quickly get to the root of the problem. This often requires physically sitting with resources along the value chain and asking questions, listening, observing, and recording what exactly is happening – not just what we think is happening. By the nature of most process breakdowns, the ‘documented process’ is not working as expected and a more detailed view is required before we can resolve the issues. Once a problem is understood, then the SWAT team is expected to facilitate the definition of both short-term and potentially longer-term remediations, working with process experts, technology/automation experts, and other functions as required.

A SWAT project manager acts with urgency and precision, manages end-to-end project execution, collaborates with cross-functional teams, and ensures that initiatives are completed on time and within scope. The role requires strong leadership, project management skills, and the ability to work in fast-paced environments.

SWAT assignments might last a couple of months, or a few weeks and a successful SWAT Project Manager needs to be highly flexible and a rapid learner bringing a set of leadership skills to each assignment.

Key Responsibilities:

Agile Project Management: Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of transformation projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with various teams across departments to coordinate resources, timelines, and deliverables. The ability to assemble teams from within the target organization is a critical skill.

Risk Management: Identify project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and resolve issues to keep projects on track.

Reporting and Communication: Provide regular updates on project progress, risks, and outcomes to senior leadership and stakeholders.

Agile Execution: Implement agile methodologies to ensure quick decision-making, flexibility, and adaptability during project execution.

Resource Management: Allocate resources efficiently to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget, especially when none of the resources might be dedicated to a SWAT effort.

Continuous Improvement: Drive improvements in project management processes to enhance speed, efficiency, and quality of project outcomes.

Key Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in business, Project Management, or related field (MBA or advanced degrees preferred).

5+ years of project management experience, preferably in business transformation or consulting.

Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects in fast-paced environments.

Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Jira, Asana).

Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and leadership skills.

Strong communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels.

Personal Attributes:

Adaptability: Able to thrive in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment.

Results-Driven: Focus on delivering high-impact results and meeting project objectives.

Collaborative: Skilled at working with cross-functional teams to drive success.
