Our Breeze Transit department is recruiting for a Transit Fleet Maintenance Supervisor to manage, organize, supervise, and assign work to both our Teamster and ATU Bargaining employees and participate in the maintenance and repair of all transit vehicles and support vehicles assigned to Sarasota County Transportation Authority. In this role you will support all maintenance shop related day-to-day operational needs such as applicant interview and hiring, employee uniforms, and database input/update as needed. The ideal candidate is able to adopt new means and methods and train staff as needed.Job Description:

About the PositionIn this role, you will...
Supervise the maintenance and repair of heavy-duty fixed route buses and support vehicles.
Work with hybrid and diesel-powered heavy-duty buses.
Plan daily work programs for technicians.
Assist technicians with more difficult repair problems.
Provide technical or physical assistance to shop technicians.
Assess fleet condition and prioritize work based on operational necessity.
Actively engaged in bus intelligent transit systems, fare collection and telematics system installation and maintenance.
Stay abreast of system updates/technology advancements.
Monitor bus attendant duties/ processes.
Promote quality control on shop production through final inspections and road test.
Determine if repair should be made in the field, in the shop or if towing is necessary.
Assist with development and coordination of fleet campaigns and shop practices.
Make decision on what parts to be repaired or replaced.
Work with NAPA and outside county approved vendors to coordinate repairs, parts, and services.
On occasion will be required to perform maintenance and repair of all transit vehicles and staff vehicles.
Advocate ASE certification personally and for mechanics.
Ensure that all repairs, parts and repair notes are recorded properly on work orders and closes them in timely manner.
Generate/update daily shop reports based on work performed and what is to be scheduled in for service.
Make periodic checks on the shop floor of work in progress to ensure quality and that schedules are adhered to.
Inspect facilities for safety issues.
Repair equipment and facilities such as vault receiver and bus wash.
Perform applicant screening and interviews for maintenance staffing as assigned by manager/superintendent.
Oversee cleanliness of shop, facility and fleet.
Coordinate maintenance and upkeep as needed with assigned employees and county support systems.
Keep management team updated of work in progress to ensure continuity across other shifts.
Perform/document monthly shop, bus wash, oil system inspections. Gain approval in advance for out of ordinary expenditures.
About the ScheduleWork Hours
Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
Hours TBD based upon business need.
Weekends, evenings, and holidays are required. Breeze Transit is open 04:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., seven days a week.
About YouMinimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or its equivalent education -AND- Four (4) years of experience performing maintenance and general operations work in a field related to the position duties (including mechanical experience in the automotive industry or heavy bus/truck repair).
One (1), or more, years of supervisory experience.
Valid Florida Driver's CDL with Class "B" with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements -OR- the ability to obtain within six (6) months of initial day of employment. (We can help with this!)
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
ASE certification in Transit Brakes (H4) and Transit Steering and Suspension (H5).
EPA 608 or 609 certifications.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five (5) years.
Physical Demands: Employees must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
About Everything ElseStarting Pay Rate: $27.49 - $35.74, based upon experience.
For Master status, as well as each ASE Certification obtained, there is an additional $0.20/hr pay additive!
