No County Orange Street Address Adult Career and Continuing Education Services Middletown VR District Office City Middletown State NY Zip Code 12603 Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Adult Career and Continuing Education Services-Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) is seeking candidates for a Translator (Manual Communication) position in the Middletown VR District Office. This Office assist persons with disabilities to attain employment, educational, and/or independent living goals. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:• Gather information verbally; • Attend meetings or conferences with the counselor;• Schedule appointments in situations where there may be communications difficulties;• Assist in the preparation of written material to ensure material is presented in a grammatically correct format and is easily understood; and, • Schedule/request interpreters for staff. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess certification by Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID) OR a passing score on the written portion of the RID certification examination AND two years of experience providing sign language interpretive services for the deaf OR a rating of intermediate or above on the Sign Communication Proficiency Interview conducted by the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a temporary appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. This position allows for the opportunity to telecommute up to 30% each bi-weekly pay period and is granted at the discretion of the supervisor and the appointing office.
