The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC Behavioral and Community-Based Research Shared Resource (BCSR) team has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Translator to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. CORE JOB SUMMARY The Translator - Remote converts written and spoken information from one language to another, ensuring to maintain the original meaning, format, and tone. Translating from English to Spanish. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS + Reads, comprehends, and rewrites material in designated languages preserving the original meaning. + Research industry-specific terminology and use sources such as dictionaries, thesauruses, and specialized translation software. + Proofreads translated texts following linguistic rules related to grammar, spelling, and punctuation. + Maintains logs/progress reports to track progress of pending and upcoming translation requests. + Follow up with internal team members and clients to ensure translation meets their needs. + Maintains consent forms and other documentation, ensuring data integrity and consistency in computer database and written records. + Attends meetings with team members as needed. + Establishes and maintains contact with clients such as patient/participants, health care providers, community agencies and study/research sponsors. + Network with field experts to stay current on new translation tools and practices ​ + Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. CORE QUALIFICATIONSEducation: High school diploma or equivalent requiredExperience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required Department Specific Functions: This position is part of the Behavioral and Community-based Research Shared Resource (BCSR), which will provide professional level translations and support for administrative related activities. The incumbent will implement day-to-day activities related to research translations. Primary Duties and Responsibilities + Communicate with research investigators regarding requests for the translation of study documents + Review IRB approved study documents in preparation for translation + Assists BCSR management in assessing study documents for the preparation of quotes and billing for translation services + Translate documents accurately, English to Spanish, and transcribe audio/video recordings in Spanish + Review translated and transcribed materials by other staff or vendors + Maintains logs/progress reports to track progress of pending and upcoming translation requests + Organizes and handles the flow of translation requests from study investigators + Completes translations in a timely manner + Assists in any administrative related activities such as time accounting, reporting, and billing, timely and accurately + Attend meetings as needed + Prepares monthly tracking reports + Performs other duties as assigned Department Specific Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred Certification and Licensing: Certified Translator preferred Experience: Translator certified in the state of Florida with two years of relevant work experience. A research background and familiarity with medical terminology is preferred. Spanish translations are a key service provided by the BCSR to investigators throughout the University and cancer center. Spanish speaking translator required. Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Highly organized and detail oriented. Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to work independently and collaborate with a team. Fluency in both English and Spanish required.
