Translator Specialist (Grant Funded)
Overview Translates and interprets written and verbal materials into specified language, English to Cherokee or Cherokee to English. Creates, edits, and translates stories, books, lessons, and other material to be used in the Immersion setting. Qualifications EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT Associate's degree from a 2-year college or technical school; or two years (60 credit hours) coursework from 4-year college or university; or three years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Related fields include Communication, Journalism, Translation, or equivalent experience with Cherokee Language Translations. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT An additional two (2) years of related experience is required. COMPUTER SKILLS An individual should know Word Processing software. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking Cherokee (Proficiency Test). OTHER QUALIFICATIONS The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
