Highlights of the jobWe are hiring a full-time permanent Transmission P&C Substation Integration Engineering Technologist position working out of Edmonton, AB. The Technologist, Engineering - Substation Integration is accountable for integrating modern protective relaying solutions for EDTI’s Protection & Control system enhancement and life cycle replacement projects. This includes working on capital projects with time spans (longest target completion time) of up to 12 months. ResponsibilitiesThe Technologist, Engineering - Substation Integration is accountable to the P&C Engineering Manager, and operates within the context and prescribed limits established by the P&C Engineering Manager.Developing relay testing plans and pre-commissioning of relays and relay panels for a wide variety of capital projects.Provide input to Protection & Control project construction packages (relay setting files, checklists), commissioning, and as-built documentation (relay records).Programming and mapping of protective relays and other intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), including digital substation programming.Accountable for Protection & Control technical support for Transmission Engineering, Operations, and Asset Management.Ensure the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics. Analyze and identify issues impacting operational performance and establish initiatives for continuous improvement to ensure productivity, quality, and on time delivery of Transmission Engineering documentation functions. Carrying out fault investigations, including fault simulation testing, analysis, and reporting.Provide input to Protection & Control system modelling.Accountable for the evaluation of protective relays and Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) for the purpose of equipment selection for capital projects and standard equipment lists.Support Protection & Control project electrical design construction packages including procurement, detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and drawing as-built documentation.Develop, implement, and review Protection & Control Engineering processes and procedures to ensure compliance to policies, standards, regulatory requirements (including Alberta Reliability Standards) and ensure mitigation of risks.Provide input to the Transmission Protection & Control Engineering plans and directions, and ensure on-going appropriate relationships with other positions.Demonstrate a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented, easy to do business with manner of working. RequirementsKnowledge/Training/Education:· Two (2) year diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from a recognized technical institute, and are eligible for registration as a technologist with A.S.E.T. · Seven (7) years of experience in Transmission & Distribution Substation Protection & Control applications.· In depth knowledge of IEEE, IEC, & Electrical Utility standards.· Experience with Transmission relaying schemes such as: transformer protection, transformer OLTC voltage regulation, bus protection, breaker controls, breaker failure protection, transmission line protection, capacitor bank protection, feeder protection, and underfrequency load shedding.· Experience with design and implementation of IEC61850 based digital substation designs, including the use of MMS, GOOSE, and Sampled Values to execute protective relaying and control applications.· Experience with Capital project planning & execution.Identifies and collaborates/engages with appropriate departments, operations, etc. to ensure a successful outcome or resolution, feedback received is analyzed and improved upon as opposed to simply implementing the exact recommended changes.Demonstrated ability to:Work effectively as part of a larger team within a dynamic environment.Develop, nurture and manage external and internal relationships.Execute the annual capital plan· Demonstrated capability to analyze issues, solve problems, and make effective decisions.· Advanced interpersonal skills to interface with all levels in the organization.· Skilled at written communications, verbal communications, facilitation and making presentations to all levels of staff, management, and externally.· Ability to self-manage workload and priorities.Technical Skills:· Expertise with protective relay vendor parameter and logic software (Siemens DIGSI 4/5, Hitachi/ABB PCM600, SEL AcSELerator, GE Enervista, Beckwith Taptalk, and more)· Expertise with protective relay vendor IEC61850 software (Siemens IEC61850 Configurator, Hitachi/ABB PCM600, SEL Architect, GE Enervista)· Expertise with relay testing equipment and software (Omicron CMC Hardware, Test Universe Software, RelaySimTest Software, and more)· Expertise with computer applications (MS Office, MS Excel, MS Teams, Outlook)· Expertise with relay settings report software (PSTI Mathcad)· Expertise in paper and PDF markupAs the ideal candidate, you take ownership of your responsibilities and demonstrate initiative in tackling challenges.
