TRANSPLANT SURGEON FACULTY
The Malú and Carlos Alvarez Center in Transplantation, Hepatobiliary Surgery and Innovation within the Department of Surgery at the Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio is actively recruiting a multidisciplinary abdominal organ transplant surgeon and faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professorship level. It is a strong desire that the candidate have experience with living donor liver transplantation, including both donor and recipient operations. It is also advantageous that the candidate be trained in hepatic/biliary and pancreatic surgery, including robotic surgery. The surgeon should be cross trained in kidney transplantation, laparoscopic kidney donors and have experience with pediatric transplants. The Transplant Center is recognized nationally for its innovation, robust clinical activity and outcomes, and interdisciplinary research. In addition, the transplant center oversees an active hepatic and pancreatic surgical practice. The academic appointment of this position will be in the Department of Surgery but will be allocated 100% to the Transplant Center.
Candidates should meet the OPTN/UNOS Certification for primary kidney and liver transplant surgeon. Requirements also include Board Certification by the American Board of Surgery or equivalency, completion of a transplant surgery fellowship at an ASTS approved program, and Texas licensure prior to starting employment. Certification in hepatic/biliary and pancreatic surgery is desirable. The candidate should have a strong interest in clinical research, teaching and program development.
