Position Summary:
The Transport Coordinator/EMT is an allied health professional who provides a wide range of basic level patient care and transportation outside the hospital setting, under emergency and non‐emergency conditions. The individual must be able to deal with all types of human responses from the patient, bystanders, and themselves. The Transport Coordinator/EMT is responsible for functioning in the pre‐hospital setting as well as various capacities throughout the hospital. Patient care encompasses patients of all ages regardless of race, religion, or cultural background.
Education, License & Cert:
EMT certification with PA DOH
Experience:
Maintains current certification as EMT by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Maintains current certification in CPR. Must have EVOC certification with EMSVO endorsement on EMT certification. Must have current valid drivers license. Ability to read, write, understand oral communication and have verbal ability in giving presentations/teaching. Keeps neat and legible written records. Follows universal precautions. Utilizes proper body mechanics. Is able to make timely decisions. Is able to handle traumatic situations, such as the death of a patient, including children, and unpleasant sights.
Essential Functions:
Essential Functions as EMT:
1. Performs basic life support in accordance to the Pennsylvania Department of Health statewide basic life support protocols and completes all protocol update education.
2. Must be skilled in all aspects of medical emergencies and trauma associated with BLS Emergency Medical Services.
3. Pursuant to direct or standing orders from a Medical Command Physician, the EMT will be able to: administer medications and perform all required procedures in accordance to the PA DOH for basic life support.
4. Performs/demonstrates safe operation of emergency vehicle, including emergency driving.
5. Supervises students when they provide patient care, treatment, and services as part of their training.
6. Provides direction and assistance to ambulance personnel on scenes and acts as triage officer during times of disaster.
7. Performs Quality Improvement duties as assigned.
8. Keeps informed of fire, safety, and disaster programs.
9. Attends designated inservice programs.
Essential Functions as Transport Coordinator:
1. The Transport Coordinator has the responsibility for patient transports and transport personnel in the department on a 24/7 basis.
2. Reviews and submits all transport bills does follow‐up with outstanding contract payments.
3. Works with transport and EMS staff to ensure that all are properly trained in all aspects of the job.
4. Fills in for EMS Manager as needed when Manager is out of the office. Assists the manager as needed with coordination of operations in the EMS Department.
5. Maintains EMS membership program.
6. Responsible to assist with coordination of maintenance of the EMS/Transport fleet.
7. Utilizes and promotes familiarization with quality improvement standards and programs.
8. Assumes the responsibilities as assigned, reasonably related.
9. Compliance with rules and regulations of all federal, state, and local governments is a requirement of employment.
