Transport Network Applications Director

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Network-level, node-level, card-level and component-level modeling  of cost, performance, density, and power across the full spectrum of terrestrial and subsea wide-area optical networking applications. Deep engagement with industry thought-leaders (network operators, system architects) to anticipate and influence future application trends in wide-area networking.  Application, technology and product management ownership of Optical Channel Monitoring (OCM) and Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) products Collaborating closely with Product Management and Engineering teams within Transport BU to align networking applications & use-cases with technology and product roadmaps. Simulating transmission performance (OSNR) in multi-band amplified ROADM and point-to-point links, in both terrestrial and subsea networks. Collaborating closely with CTO office, Transmission BU and Datacom BU to identify and maximize technology synergies across Coherent’s full portfolio of networking solutions. Partner with Engineering and CTO office to define topics, scope and priorities for external outreach (Universities/Consortia) related to advance research that will enable future networking applications. Generating and sharing insights with Office of CTO and CMO in support of whitepapers, webinars and tradeshow collateral.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Physics. At least 10 years of experience in optical networking, with a proven track record of successfully anticipating and influencing market direction. Deep knowledge of optical networks and systems, applications, technologies, and solutions. Strong technical background and ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with customers  Passionate about technology, innovation, and customer satisfaction. Experience in identifying requirements for advance technology development ahead of product development. Experience in identifying and protecting valuable Intellectual Property Proven ability to collaborate effectively with Product Management, Product Development, CTO/CMO offices, and Sales teams

Strong analytical skills  Proven ability to distill complex data into persuasive insights Broad network of industry contacts within Transport networking domain Strong interpersonal, teaming, and problem-solving skills. Work effectively with other members of Coherent Corp

Working Conditions

Travel of roughly 15% will be required to Coherent Sites and Customer visits.
