Transports patients, equipment, supplies to and from nursing service units and other specific areas of the hospital. Assists professional nurse/licensed practical nurse by performing a variety of patient, unit and environment-related duties.

Responsibilities
Transports patients via wheelchair or stretcher to various areas of the hospital as assigned. Makes daily rounds. Transports patients via wheelchair or stretcher efficiently, safely and in a courteous manner. Prepares patient for transport according to nursing service procedure. Records each transport showing time left unit, destination and time returned to unit using Tele tracking system. Transports bodies to the morgue, exhibiting care and respect for the deceased. Maintains vehicles keeping them clean and in good repair. Inspects and cleans vehicles according to nursing service procedure as directed by supervisor. Makes rounds to nursing units to serve as messenger as requested.  Returns vehicles and oxygen tanks & O2 equipment when completed with transport of patient. Performs a variety of miscellaneous service duties. Responds to call lights promptly, communicates needs to appropriate personnel. Reports all unusual conditions. Assists patients out of bed as requested and demonstrates ability to use lifting devices. Responds to Code Green with appropriate vehicle. Provides competent care to patients appropriate for the individualized, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs for the ages of those patients serviced.  Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

BLS required or must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment
