Job Summary:
As a Messiah Lifeways Transportation Assistant, this person will assist with the transportation of passengers as defined by guests either resident, family member, team member, or the general public for the purpose of activities, errands, group outings, special events, and trips by request of either resident, family member, or team member, and as assigned by the Transportation Coordinator by utilizing an assigned vehicle belonging to the Messiah Lifeways Fleet.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Transport residents and/or supplies as requested by means of wheelchair van, van, car or bus
Learn and apply proper methods of securing wheelchairs for safe transportation of wheelchair-bound residents
Communicate with a cellular phone so as to have emergency communication when needed
Keep records of mileage and time for Transportation Coordinator record for billing purposes
Flexible, and able to transport on off-hours, such as mornings, evenings or weekends
Follow handwritten directions and/or a map to arrive at the proper destination
Report mechanical problems and fluid levels (windshield washer, oil, antifreeze, etc.) with vehicles to the Transportation Coordinator in a timely manner to ensure proper repairs
Communicate any needs regarding the physical appearance of the vehicles as well as needed supplies such as first aid supplies, tissues, etc. to the Transportation Coordinator
Maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle at all times
Follow emergency procedures and respond rapidly and appropriately to emergencies ensuring the safety of the residents and staff
Follow proper procedures and promote safe work practices in order to maintain a safe working environment
Confidentiality regarding resident information must be maintained in strict confidence, as well as other information pertaining to the business of Messiah Lifeways
It is the responsibility of all Messiah Lifeways employees to be mindful of safety when performing duties. This is to include performing tasks in a safe manner, as well as being mindful of potential safety issues when traveling throughout the campus. If any unsafe conditions are discovered, this shall be reported to the Transportation Coordinator and/or Life Safety Manager
immediately, and actions shall be taken to reduce the possibility of injury until a permanent solution can be applied.
Additional duties and tasks as assigned by the Transportation Coordinator and/or Manager
If these requirements are not maintained by all Transportation Assistants, the Transportation Coordinator and/or Life Safety Manager reserves the right to request the Transportation Assistant to complete the Driver evaluation examination administered by PennDot
