Summary You will serve as a Transportation Assistant (Freight) in the Supply Management Department of NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR SAN DIEGO. Responsibilities You will be charged with identifying the mode(s) of transportation, necessary special equipment and services required for shipments, securing carriers, and advising customers on transportation issues. You will manage shipment solutions effecting off-station shipping of general freight, hazardous, Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives, classified, high dollar value, fragile, security-risk aviation and ship materials, using all modes of transportation. You will make informed decisions based on cost analysis to be determined by material characteristics/classification, dimensions and weight, urgency of need, and customer mission requirements. You will serve as a freight/SPE shipping technical consultant and advisor, providing technical advice and administration of all customer shipments. You will review shipping requests for accuracy, communicate with the customer when needed, make corrections, and forward shipping request to the Regional Transportation Office. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must have one year of Transportation Assistant (Freight) specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector applying a practical knowledge of the carrier industry, terminal and storage capabilities in support of transportation, necessary special equipment and services required for shipments, carriers, and customers on transportation issues (i.e. general freight and hazmat). I have experience identifying modes of transportation, necessary special equipment and services required for shipments, securing carries, and advising customers on transportation issues.
