The Transportation Capacity Manager is responsible for collaborating with the Transportation Capacity Planning Managers across all transportation miles: AMZL, ATS, Air, 3P carriers. to ensure the transportation network has sufficient capacity to reliably meet customer requirements without excess idle capacity, has the right mechanisms in place and the required level of flexibility to react from forecast deviations, minimize the risk of capacity shortages. This person plays a critical role in aligning cross-functional stakeholders towards this objective.
Key job responsibilities
Regularly communicating and coordinating with Capacity Planning Managers in all transportation modes (AMZL DS, AMZL EDSPs, Air, 3P carriers, ATS) to understand current and projected capacity levels.
Analyzing demand forecasts and capacity plans to identify potential gaps or imbalances between supply and demand.
Facilitating discussions and negotiations between Capacity Planning Managers to align capacity targets and develop contingency plans.
Reporting capacity status and risks to senior leadership, and recommending mitigation strategies as needed.
Maintaining visibility into capacity utilization metrics and trends across the end-to-end transportation network.
Collaborating on long-term capacity investment plans to ensure the transportation system can accommodate future growth.
A day in the life
Morning Routine:
Review latest capacity utilization reports and demand forecasts across all transportation modes
Identify any emerging capacity gaps or imbalances that require attention
Prioritize key issues and coordination needs for the day
Capacity Coordination Meetings:
Hold regular check-in calls with Capacity Planning Managers in AMZL, ATS, air, 3P carriers
Discuss current capacity levels, upcoming changes, and any operational issues
Collaborate on ways to optimize capacity utilization and mitigate risks
Capacity Planning Alignment:
Facilitate meetings between Capacity Planning Managers to align on capacity targets
Review aggregate capacity plans to identify gaps or opportunities for shared capacity
Negotiate capacity commitments and develop contingency plans
Stakeholder Engagement:
Brief senior leadership on capacity status and any significant risks or mitigation actions
Communicate with customer-facing teams to understand evolving demand patterns
Participate in cross-functional meetings to represent the capacity planning perspective
Data Analysis and Reporting:
Analyze capacity utilization trends and forecasts using data visualization tools
Develop dashboards and scorecards to track key capacity KPIs over time
Generate periodic reports on capacity performance and future outlook
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree;
- Knowledge of Excel (Pivot Tables, VLookUps) at an advanced level and SQL;
- Experience defining program requirements and using data and metrics to determine improvements;
- Program or project management experience;
- Working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams;
- Defining and implementing process improvement initiatives using data and metrics;
- Advanced English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in stakeholder management, dealing with multiple stakeholders at varied levels of the organization;
- Experience building processes, project management and schedules;
- Driving end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership;
- Driving process improvements experience.
