Transportation Cluster Manager (ad closes 09/25/2024)

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, is responsible for supervising the bus route supervisor team and daily bus route operations for an assigned cluster(s). Participates in managing the day-to-day operations of an assigned depot. Supervises the cluster management team to include, recruiting, staffing, evaluating, developing and recognizing. Takes responsibility for overall team and individual team member performance. On a rotating basis, may function as department-wide night duty manager.

CERTIFICATE LICENSE:
Possession of or ability to obtain a Maryland Class B Commercial Driver's License (air brake, passenger and school bus endorsements), or equivalent.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the local street and road system. Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations, and of the precautions necessary to avoid accidents. Knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, policies and guides that govern school transportation. Knowledge of bus route coordination and dispatching. Ability to plan and supervise the work of others and to effectively coordinate the completion of regularly assigned bus routes. Ability to instruct bus operators in the safe operation of buses and to implement safe driving practices and procedures. Ability to maintain records and complete reports. Ability to operate a school bus in the safe and efficient transportation of children. Ability to supervise a large number of employees. Ability to develop bus schedules. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED required. College courses in transportation, management, or other related field desirable. Experience as a school bus operator, Bus route dispatching, coordination, or supervision experience preferred. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
