Summit Design and Engineering Services is seeking Transportation Construction Inspectors from Trainees to Level IV to work with our Construction Engineering Inspection team on highway construction projects in the Raleigh area and throughout North Carolina.\n

Responsibilities:\n\nAssist in the inspection of various roadways and structures construction operations and perform a variety of calculations and computations with supervision.\nPerform materials sampling and testing.\nCollect materials weigh tickets and conduct various roadway tests to ensure materials delivered to project meets specifications and are placed in accordance with standard specification.\nMonitor and perform all types of inspection work on complex and routine highway projects.\nPerform and maintain daily record keeping of project activities and prepare monthly project estimates.\nTake field measurements of various completed work items and make calculations to determine contract pay quantities.\nRead plans and blueprints.\n\n

Skills and Qualifications:\n\nHigh School diploma or equivalent. \nWorking knowledge of mathematics in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry and the ability to apply formulas. \nProficient in using iPad, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox and\/or OneDrive.\nAbility to work independently, use own judgment and make decisions. \nGood written and verbal communication skills.\nAbility to perform required testing and maintain detailed reports.\nAbility to communicate effectively with agency and contractor personnel and the general public.\nAbility to read and interpret roadway, bridge and structure plans and contract specifications.\nMust be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 12 hours a day on occasion. \nMust have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb and balance and to work in confined spaces and heights with adequate vision to perform tasks. \nMust be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, on occasion.\nAbility to work outside in various weather conditions. \nValid Driver's license with a good driving record and ability to drive. \nLevel II Technicians: Minimum four years of relevant experience. Must be able to perform duties without supervision and be able to read resource materials to determine answers to simple inspection requirements.\nLevel III Technicians: Minimum five years of relevant experience. Must be able to perform duties without supervision and be able to read resource materials to determine answers to simple inspection requirements.\nLevel IV Technicians: Minimum seven years of relevant experience. May serve as a Lead Project Inspector performing general project oversight and communication with the contractor and NCDOT. Will be responsible for supervising lower-level technicians while providing guidance as needed.\n\n
