Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Transportation Services, the Transportation Coordinator coordinates and provides recommendations on services and infrastructure to meet expanding customer needs within a dynamic shuttle operations environment.   This position assists with the delivery of shuttle and special transportation services to students, faculty, staff, and visitors, including coordinating bus operations, managing driving assignments, and providing an excellent operating and service experience for all unit stakeholders. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist the Director with scheduling and monitoring daily vehicle assignments, bus routes and runs, problem solving, and relaying routing directions to ensure coverage and the timely performance of all routes.  Communicate all relevant details of work assignments to drivers to ensure proper execution. Alert director and supervisors to discrepancies for follow up activities, and escalate unresolved issues as appropriate.  Recommend operating and service efficiencies.

Answer a high volume of incoming calls and email inquiries and assist with providing responses. Respond to customer concerns and requests for information in an expeditious and professional manner, and provide effective, appropriate, and consistent communication to stakeholders.

Facilitate emergency response network, coordinate mechanical service repairs, and assign replacement buses and drivers when there is a problem on a route.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with stakeholders.  Notify stakeholders and location personnel of all changes in route assignments, emergencies, accidents, breakdowns, or any other event that will disrupt service.

Maintain accurate information in the TripShot bus management system and use that information to produce daily, weekly, and monthly passenger reports as requested by the director for annual Ridership and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) benchmarking information.

Record violations of University transportation policies and state regulations. Gather information for further investigation by the director and supervisors.

Coordinate fueling and routine maintenance with Fleet Services to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.

Assist with developing or coordinating training and safety awareness materials and programs for staff and students. 

Maintain high compliance with transportation standard operating procedures.

Maintain organized route documentation, customer, and operating service records to relay accurate information and comply with University and state requirements.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree.

NOTE:  Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience on a year for year basis.

A minimum of one year of professional experience in dispatch, call center, customer service, hospitality, or related environment.

The ability to read and comprehend road and street maps.

Ability to work outside standard business hours to respond to campus emergencies when necessary.

PREFERRED:

Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite.

Two years of professional experience in dispatch, call center, customer service, hospitality or related environment.

*NOTE: This is a Civil Service position.  As required by the State of New Jersey, in order to be certified to the position and attain permanent status in title, candidates are required to successfully serve a 4-Month Working Test Period.

SALARY RANGE: P18: $54,351.06 - $76,649.82 *NOTE: Salaries for internal candidates are determined by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission's formula. Salaries for external candidates are determined up to step four, $61,783.98.
