Job Title: Transportation Design Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Transportation Design Engineer to perform design tasks for a variety of transportation improvement projects. The successful candidate will apply local, state, and federal design guidelines and standards to complete transportation, traffic, and drainage-related designs. You will work under the direction of a Engineer or Project Manager and utilize various design guidelines and tools to develop multimodal solutions and alternatives.

ResponsibilitiesPerform design tasks for transportation improvement projects.Apply local, state, and federal design guidelines and standards.Utilize design guidelines from IDOT, ITE, NACTO, and MUTCD.Develop specifications and quantity estimates for projects.Create horizontal/vertical and cross-sectional geometry for projects.Apply the Highway Capacity Manual for traffic-related designs.Prepare plans and bid documents using design and modeling tools such as MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, Geopak, ArcGIS, HCS, Synchro, and Excel.Coordinate with public/private utilities to document physical locations and analyze potential conflicts.Perform other duties as assigned.Essential SkillsHighway designRoadway designExperience with IDOT Roadway Projects and municipal/county clientsKnowledge of IDOT design manuals, submittals, permitting, and environmental requirementsProficiency in using MicroStation or OpenRoads DesignerEIT or PE License desired4+ years of experience in transportation design desiredExperience with IDOT design manuals, submittals, permitting, and environmental requirementsAdditional Skills & QualificationsB.S. Degree in Civil EngineeringFamiliarity with tools such as Geopak, ArcGIS, HCS, SynchroProfessional Engineer (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT) certificationKnowledge of rural and urban drainage systemsExperience in developing bid documentsWork Environment

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $69000.00 - $105000.00/yr.
