Job Title: Transportation Design Engineer Job Description As a Transportation Design Engineer, you will perform design tasks for a variety of transportation improvement projects under the direction of a experienced Engineer or Project Manager. You will apply local, state, and federal design guidelines and standards to complete transportation, traffic, and drainage-related designs. You will utilize design guidelines from IDOT, ITE, NACTO, and MUTCD to develop multimodal solutions and alternatives. Additionally, you will develop specifications and quantity estimates for transportation or site-civil related projects, and create plans and bid documents using various design and modeling tools. Responsibilities + Perform design tasks for transportation improvement projects under the direction of an experienced Engineer or Project Manager. + Apply local, state, and federal design guidelines and standards to complete transportation, traffic, and drainage-related designs. + Utilize design guidelines from IDOT, ITE, NACTO, and MUTCD to develop multimodal solutions and alternatives. + Develop specifications and quantity estimates for transportation or site-civil related projects. + Develop horizontal/vertical and cross-sectional geometry for roadway and/or drainage projects. + Understand and apply the Highway Capacity Manual to complete traffic-related designs. + Create plans and bid documents for project deliverables using design and modeling tools including MicroStation, Open Roads Designer, Geopak, ArcGIS, HCS, Synchro, and Excel. + Coordinate with public and private utilities to document physical location and analyze potential conflicts. + Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Skills + Highway design + Roadway design + Experience with IDOT roadway projects and municipal/county clients + Knowledge of IDOT design manuals, submittals, permitting, and environmental requirements + Proficiency in MicroStation or Open Roads Designer + Proficiency in Geopak, ArcGIS, HCS, Synchro + Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT) license desired Additional Skills & Qualifications + B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering + EIT or PE License desired + 4+ years of experience in transportation design desired + Experience with IDOT design manuals, submittals, permitting, and environmental requirements is required Work Environment This role is primarily office-based with 90% of the work performed in the office and occasional onsite visits.
