Job Description
Design transportation improvement projects with guidance from a Sr Engineer or Project Manager. Follow local, state, and federal guidelines for transportation, traffic, and drainage designs. Develop project specifications and quantity estimates, and apply engineering principles to create horizontal/vertical and cross-sectional geometry for roadways and drainage projects.
ResponsibilitiesDesign transportation improvement projects with guidance from a Sr Engineer or Project Manager.Follow local, state, and federal guidelines for transportation, traffic, and drainage designs.Use guidelines from IDOT, ITE, NACTO, and MUTCD.Develop project specifications and quantity estimates.Create horizontal/vertical and cross-sectional geometry for roadways and drainage projects.Apply the Highway Capacity Manual for traffic designs.Prepare plans and bid documents using tools like MicroStation, Open Roads Designer, Geopak, ArcGIS, HCS, Synchro, and Excel.Coordinate with utilities to document locations and analyze conflicts.Essential SkillsProficiency with Bentley MicroStationExperience in transportation and roadway designB.S Degree in Civil EngineeringEIT and/or IL PE licenseStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to mentor and develop less experienced engineersAdditional Skills & QualificationsRural and urban drainage design experienceExperience with IDOT and municipal/county clientsAbility to interface with clients and participate in public meetingsWork Environment
The position is open as the company continues to grow and has a large backlog of projects. The company offers a flexible work/life balance, making it an ideal opportunity for those seeking stability and professional growth. The company operates on a hybrid schedule with 3 days in person and flexibility for 2 days remote, starting with 5 days in the office for entry-level candidates. The individual will be based in the Chicago office, reporting to the transportation team lead and working under sr staff. The team consists of 5-6 members. The office space is brand new with an open layout, 15 ft. ceilings, a kitchen, and a prime downtown location. Occasional site visits are required, and the individual will work on Phase I and II projects involving state and county roads.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $78347.00 - $101504.00/yr.
