Job Description
As a Transportation Design Engineer, you will perform design tasks for a variety of transportation improvement projects under the direction of a experienced Engineer or Project Manager. You will apply local, state, and federal design guidelines and standards to complete transportation, traffic, and drainage-related designs. You will utilize design guidelines from IDOT, ITE, NACTO, and MUTCD to develop multimodal solutions and alternatives. Additionally, you will develop specifications and quantity estimates for transportation or site-civil related projects, and create plans and bid documents using various design and modeling tools.
ResponsibilitiesPerform design tasks for transportation improvement projects under the direction of an experienced Engineer or Project Manager.Apply local, state, and federal design guidelines and standards to complete transportation, traffic, and drainage-related designs.Utilize design guidelines from IDOT, ITE, NACTO, and MUTCD to develop multimodal solutions and alternatives.Develop specifications and quantity estimates for transportation or site-civil related projects.Develop horizontal/vertical and cross-sectional geometry for roadway and/or drainage projects.Understand and apply the Highway Capacity Manual to complete traffic-related designs.Create plans and bid documents for project deliverables using design and modeling tools including MicroStation, Open Roads Designer, Geopak, ArcGIS, HCS, Synchro, and Excel.Coordinate with public and private utilities to document physical location and analyze potential conflicts.Perform other duties as assigned.Essential SkillsHighway designRoadway designExperience with IDOT roadway projects and municipal/county clientsKnowledge of IDOT design manuals, submittals, permitting, and environmental requirementsProficiency in MicroStation or Open Roads DesignerProficiency in Geopak, ArcGIS, HCS, SynchroProfessional Engineer (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT) license desiredAdditional Skills & QualificationsB.S. Degree in Civil EngineeringEIT or PE License desired4+ years of experience in transportation design desiredExperience with IDOT design manuals, submittals, permitting, and environmental requirements is requiredWork Environment
This role is primarily office-based with 90% of the work performed in the office and occasional onsite visits. A hiring bonus of $2,500-$10,000 is available dependent on experience.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $69000.00 - $105000.00/yr.
