Transportation Design Engineer Job Description Design transportation improvement projects with guidance from a Sr Engineer or Project Manager. Follow local, state, and federal guidelines for transportation, traffic, and drainage designs. Develop project specifications and quantity estimates, and apply engineering principles to create horizontal/vertical and cross-sectional geometry for roadways and drainage projects. Responsibilities + Design transportation improvement projects with guidance from a Sr Engineer or Project Manager. + Follow local, state, and federal guidelines for transportation, traffic, and drainage designs. + Use guidelines from IDOT, ITE, NACTO, and MUTCD. + Develop project specifications and quantity estimates. + Create horizontal/vertical and cross-sectional geometry for roadways and drainage projects. + Apply the Highway Capacity Manual for traffic designs. + Prepare plans and bid documents using tools like MicroStation, Open Roads Designer, Geopak, ArcGIS, HCS, Synchro, and Excel. + Coordinate with utilities to document locations and analyze conflicts. Essential Skills + Proficiency with Bentley MicroStation + Experience in transportation and roadway design + B.S Degree in Civil Engineering + EIT and/or IL PE license + Strong verbal and written communication skills + Ability to mentor and develop less experienced engineers Additional Skills & Qualifications + Rural and urban drainage design experience + Experience with IDOT and municipal/county clients + Ability to interface with clients and participate in public meetings Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $78347.00 - $101504.00/yr.
