We are looking to grow our teams with people who share our energy and enthusiasm for making that mission a reality every single day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXfzUqeUz0A Contributing to Our Core Focus: The Transportation Engineer Associate will work in a variety of civil engineering capacities within the Bureau, including: + Working under a licensed engineer, providing technical engineering assistance regarding proper construction techniques, procedures and processes. + Providing good communication and plan reading assistance. Resolving construction related issues by applying fundamental engineer principles and coordinating with field staff, design engineers and consultants. + Providing basic HMA and PCC design guidance and proper construction methods. + Assisting on highway research and investigation. + Performing subbase evaluations. + Performing friction evaluation + Performing smoothness evaluation + Assisting in conflict resolution between contractors and project staff + Performing plan reviews during the design phase to minimize constructability issues + Updating Construction Manual and specification documents as required + Working under a licensed engineer, performing value engineering analysis of different roadway systems. + Utilizing fundamental knowledge of base properties, mix types and service life. This information is gathered from contract documents, engineering manuals and contractor submittals. + Utilizing specialized computer software to analyze the data. Provide assistance in updating software + Participating in laboratory evaluations. + Open communication with peers, other IDOT offices, contractors and the public is very important to the success of the projects and the office. Applicants must have the ability to work safely in and around construction sites. Licensure: Applicant must also possess an Engineer certificate issued by the Iowa State Board of Engineering Examiners within 18 months of hire. Licensure as a professional engineer is required within 9 years of hire for continued employment as a Transportation Engineer Associate. Work Hours: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, normal work hours. Flexible schedules are available. Travel: This position may require some overnight travel. Minimum Qualification Requirements Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification: + Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in chemical, civil, construction, environmental, materials, mechanics, structural, or transportation engineering or in engineering management. + Possession of a verification of graduation with major course work in chemical, civil, construction, environmental, materials, mechanics, structural, or transportation engineering or in engineering management. Within a period of time after hire, as determined by the appointing authority, employees in this class may be required to obtain one or more of the following certificates, licenses, or endorsements: + Certification as an engineer intern by the Iowa Engineering & Land Surveying Examining Board + Licensure as a professional engineer by the Iowa Engineering & Land Surveying Examining Board is required within 9 years for continued employment; temporary training assignments will terminate within six months following a second attempt to obtain a professional engineer license or nine years from date of hire.
