HDR is hiring a Transportation Engineering Team Lead for our Birmingham, AL office.

Primary Responsibilities

Serve as leader of a highway/roadway design team and practice in Alabama. Prepare or oversee the roadway/highway design work using local or AASHTO standards: horizontal and vertical alignment, roadway sections, intersection layout and sight distance determination, interchange layout, roadway drainage including hydraulic reports, and right-of-way plans.Prepare and oversee the roadway design elements of various sizes of contracts including but not limited to: roadway alignments and modeling, right-of-way and construction plans, specifications and estimates, erosion control plans, site plans, drainage design and details, utility relocation plans, pavement designs, pavement marking plans, signing plans, traffic control plans, and others as required.Prepare technical studies and write reports.Manage projects and serve as task lead or deputy PM to assist in the management of larger projects.Prepare scopes, budgets, and schedules through coordination with clients, HDR teams, and subconsultants.Manage and/or provide the following Team Lead work elements:engineering, design, and project technical production servicesmake decisions on design and engineering procedures as neededday-to-day communication (verbal and written) with clientsdevelop, support and manage junior engineers and technical staff as assignedcoordinate with subconsultantskeep projects on schedule and within budgetmaintain client satisfaction and market awareness.Assist the Alabama Section Manager with staff recruiting and development, client development, and business development in the state and local area.Work as part of a team on a variety of transportation design projects and pursuits for Alabama DOT, local municipalities, and other clients.Function as technical lead on mid-size projects and task manager on large complex roadway design projects. Supervise staff of professionals and technicians as needed. Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil EngineeringMinimum of 10 years of transportation engineering/design experienceAlabama PE or ability to obtain through reciprocityHands-on experience with Bentley ORDProficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, WordRequired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experienceA minimum of 7 years experience Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role Strong communication and listening skills Ability to handle multiple assignments Good leadership and organizational skills An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
