Mead & Hunt, a nationally recognized professional services consulting firm, has multiple positions available to join our internship experience for a limited-term, full-time summer employment. Depending on your preferred specialized interest, an internship opportunity involves a focus in either of the following: Traffic Engineering (Locations: Lexington, SC; Baltimore, MD; Columbia, MD; Washington, D.C.; Herndon, VA) The Traffic and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) group focuses on the analysis, design, and implementation of traffic control devices (e.g., signing, pavement markings, traffic signals, roadway lighting) along our roadways / bridges / tunnels to improve traffic safety and mobility. This group also designs and tests intelligent traffic control and wireless / wire line communication technologies that process and share real-time transportation data. Transportation Planning / Engineering (Locations: Baltimore, MD; Columbia, MD; Raleigh, NC; Herndon, VA; Denver, CO) Transportation and Community Planning develops, tests, and refines innovative solutions to mobility problems from a project’s inception through preliminary engineering design stages. Responsibilities include planning, analysis and designs for various transportation facilities including complete streets, sidewalks, bicycle networks/ trails, transit systems, airports, freight networks and parking infrastructure. Multimodal data collection and analysis is performed to investigate existing safety and mobility issues and propose geometric, operational, land use and demand management strategies including use of advance simulation tools such as Vissim, TransModeler, Cube and ArcUrban. Geographic Information System (Locations: Columbia, MD; Baltimore, MD) Support the GIS team in carrying out deliverables for projects; conduct research; create designs for GIS datasets, maps, and applications; gather, transform and analyze datasets. The ideal candidate will have experience with any/all of the following: ArcGIS Pro / ArcGIS Online; geodatabases and generation of spatial datasets; perform industry research, provide concise documentation of findings. Civil Roadway / Bridge / Drainage Engineering Design (Locations: Raleigh, NC; Columbus, OH; Columbia, MD; Wauwatosa, WI; De Pere, WI) The Civil group focuses on geometric design and 3D modeling of roadways, interchanges, intersections, bridges, and drainage structures (e.g., detention basins, swales, culverts). The design work comprises of horizontal and vertical layouts of roadways & pedestrian facilities, bridge / drainage structure detail drawings, and material quantity calculations and cost estimates. This group also conducts bridge inspections that look for defects and possible problem areas that may impact the integrity of the structure. Water Resources (Locations: Raleigh, NC; Columbia, MD) Responsibilities include assisting engineers with the design of water resources and civil engineering projects; performing design calculations, quantities, and cost estimates; assisting with the preparation of AutoCAD drawings; helping with report preparation; and performing construction observation, as needed. Construction Inspection (Locations: Port Orange, FL; Myrtle Beach, SC; Bloomington, MN; Wauwatosa, WI; De Pere, WI) Focusing on a variety of construction services to complement standard and numerous alternative project delivery methods, including engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), design-build, design-build-operate, design-build-own-operate, and construction management at risk. Surveying (Location: Charleston, WV) Assist with conducting topographic surveys and boundary surveys; familiarity with data collecting and/or robotic total station; experience with GPS devices; experience conducting topographic and/or boundary surveys; experience conducting courthouse research related to surveys; and assisting with construction staking. Applicants will be working mostly out in the field with a team. A valid driver’s license with a positive driving record is required. Successful candidates must have completed at least two semesters of college-level coursework in civil engineering or a related field. At Mead & Hunt we shape the future by putting people first.
