Transportation Manager

The Transportation Manager will be responsible for the comprehensive management of the transportation area in a refrigerated goods company operating in Florida and the Northeast Coast of the U.S. Their main focus will be to ensure operational efficiency in the first mile
and, where desirable, in the last mile, ensuring compliance with quality standards and cost optimization.
Responsibilities:
+ Manage and supervise the performance of the company's fleet and owner- operators.
+ Identify, select, and build loyalty with exclusive or dedicated fleets according to operational needs.
+ Negotiate competitive rates with owner-operators, ensuring high-quality service.
+ Ensure the availability of fleets according to dispatch requirements.
+ Implement strategies for continuous improvement in transportation efficiency.
+ Coordinate the preventive and corrective maintenance of trucks to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
+ Collaborate with other departments to optimize the supply chain and customer satisfaction.
+ Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of transportation operations.
+ Verify that owner-operators comply with all legal and operational requirements, including current licenses, adequate insurance, and that their drivers are suitable for transportation.
+ Analyze, plan, and optimize transportation routes to maximize efficiency and reduce costs.
+ Approve the timely departure of vehicles to their destination, ensuring compliance with established regulations and procedures.
+ Manage the transportation department's budget and evaluate the costs associated to ensure a profitable operation.
+ Ensure compliance with safety policies regarding the company's material resources and infrastructure.
+ Review and manage the documentation required for the onboarding of owner- operators.
+ Conduct periodic equipment inspections, insurance policies, maintenance logs and update the pertinent documents annually.
+ Responsible for implementing and maintaining high standards of safety in transportation operations, including compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations.
+ Supervise the maintenance of the vehicles in the fleet.
+ Conduct vehicle inspections to ensure their roadworthiness.
+ Ensure compliance with DOT and ELD regulations.
+ Develop and implement safety initiatives.
Qualifications:
+ Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation management, preferably in handling refrigerated goods.
+ Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transportation, Industrial Engineering, or related fields.
+ Proven experience in first-mile operations and desirable experience in last-mile operations.
+ Experience in managing own fleets and fleets of owner-operators and preferred experience in truck fleet maintenance.
+ Previous experience in supervision or management in a distribution/logistics environment.
+ Leadership experience in managing and leading a team.
+ Fluency in English and Spanish, both spoken and written, to communicate effectively with a diverse team of owner-operators, drivers, and various clients.
+ Experienced in negotiation of rates and contracts with owner-operators.
+ Experienced in route planning and optimization of logistics operations.
+ In-depth knowledge of regulations and best practices for the transport of refrigerated perishable goods, including temperature control and cold chain management.
+ In-depth knowledge of DOT regulations and ability to implement safety initiatives.
+ Preferred experience with fleet management software, TMS systems, route optimization tools and GPS tracking software.
