HDR is looking for highly-motivated professionals with a passion for transit and transportation planning, our robust transportation planning practice. This position would support HDR’s portfolio of rail transportation planning, transit planning, and infrastructure finance engagements on the eastern seaboard with opportunities to contribute to work across North America. This position requires an eagerness to learn all aspects of HDR’s Transportation Planning practice, exquisite attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, quantitative agility, and desire to work in a team environment.

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Transit Planner, you’ll have the opportunity to:

Support the creation of technical reports, presentations, and other materials to document planning study findings (such as corridor studies)Collect, assimilate and manage project-related dataContribute to technical reports, presentations, and other materials for stakeholders and clients to document planning study and concept design findingsAssist in preparation and participation of public information meetings and hearingsSupport the work of others in the completion of required studies, documents, and reportsMake active contributions to planning work sessions in conjunction with appropriate technical professionals and other disciplinesParticipate in a variety of transportation planning projects including complete streets, transit planning, long-range planning, community planning, or concept developmentParticipate in corridor studies associated with FRA CID projectsParticipate in corridor studies associated with FTA CIG projectsAssist in projects relating to emerging transportation technologiesPerform other duties as needed

Transit plansCorridor studiesStatewide Rail PlansState of Good Repair grant applicationsCRISI grant applicationsNEPA environmental clearance documents for rail and transit (i.e, Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments)BRT and bus priority feasibilityAlternatives analyses for transit projectsShort and long-range transit and transportation plansTransportation planning reportsZero-emissions transition plans for transit agenciesLocal, regional and statewide multimodal transportation plansTransit-oriented developmentTransit studies for multiple modesBicycle and pedestrian studiesCommunity engagement

Preferred Qualifications

2 years of relevant transportation and transit planning experienceAgility with Microsoft Office Suite, ESRI GIS SuiteQuantitative agility, especially with respect to basic economic conceptsExperience with design packages such as Adobe CSExperience working on projects for with transit agencies, municipalities, state, and federal government organizationsPreference given to local candidates or candidates that have demonstrated prior local experience in DC, Maryland, or Virginia and willingness to live locallyRequired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or closely related fieldExperience with Microsoft Office programsSelf-starter with excellent writing and communication skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamStrong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving and research abilitiesMay require the ability to travelAn attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.) Baltimore, MD: $55,713 - $79,590 Fulton, MD: $58,336 - $83,380.
