Transportation Specialist

HeartShare St. Vincent’s Services (HSVS) Nuevo Camino program is dedicated to providing 38 unaccompanied minors, ages 5-12, with a supportive, nurturing environment through transitional foster homes, daily education Monday - Friday, and supportive wrap-around services in the East Brooklyn section of New York City. Our program is rooted in ensuring that service delivery is trauma-informed, culturally appropriate, and tailored to the needs of each child while maintaining all program requirements of ORR. 

 

Nuevo Camino is currently seeking a candidate for a position. The Transportation Specialist will be responsible for coordinating transportation and physically escorting children to appointments and other destinations. The Transportation Specialist will be responsible for organizing transports, tracking and logging specifics about transports, maintaining vehicles, providing safety training, and other travel-related duties.  

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions of Position: 

Must be able to organize, navigate, and physically escort youth to various travel destinations possibly including airlines, trains, and buses. Travel includes out-of-state trips up to 40%-50% to unify youth with families. 

Coordinates transportation including organizing and navigating travel destinations, physically escorts, and supervises youth while in transit to scheduled and emergency appointments. 

Maintains a daily roster of times, dates, destinations, transporters, and length of transport. 

Maintains notebooks – includes inspecting logs for completion and accuracy. 

Maintains security over the vehicles and keys. 

Reports vehicle needs and damage to maintenance and tracks all vehicle issues in regard to repair. 

Ensure daily cleanliness and upkeep of all vehicles – including inspecting for cleanliness, damage, proper equipment, and safe operation of the vehicle. 

Ensure vehicles are properly fueled. 

A willingness to work flexible and non-traditional hours with a possibility of being on call on nights/weekends, in the service of foster caregivers, families of origin, and persons served 

The supervision and transport of youth requires prolonged periods of walking and standing and physical agility. May be required to run and climb flights of stairs; Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. 

Will participate in agency meetings and training as required.
