What you will be doing
Plan and supervise Transportation Department operations to control costs, promote efficiency, provide good service to retail operations and ensure all drivers meet DOT requirements.
The position will be based in Melrose Park, IL.
Main responsibilities
Plan and supervise activities to ensure efficient scheduling of deliveries to retail stores. Coordinate back haul programs and review back haul rates. Verify compliance of all FSMA and SFTA procedures Coordinate and supervise Transportation activities to achieve all established benchmarks in regard to optimum store service and Company Goals Mentor and train the Supervisor group to improve their understanding of the Transportation operation to prepare them for their advancement within the Company Assist in the preparation and effective administration of a department budget. Review equipment and make recommendations regarding major equipment purchases Ensure compliances with Company and government rules and regulations by all department personnel Ensure proper recording of all metrics to include the accurate maintenance for future budgetary processes Maintain a sufficient driver workforce to meet the demands of the Business. Oversee driver road testing, training and qualification. Ensure the new driver is updated periodically on their performance to coach and mentor them through our transportation processes Respond to customer complaints and work to resolve any problems in an efficient and timely manner Interface with various Company office and retail store personnel and with outside carriers, vendors, etc., to ensure efficient operation and good working relationships are maintained Make recommendations to Transportation Manager and follow up on approved personnel actions to include the review and evaluation of subordinate work and the preparation of performance reviews Place a high degree priority daily on ensuring all associates achieve outstanding safety behavior Perform other duties as assigned by Transportation Manager Adjust and prepare for changes involved in the negotiations of the collective bargaining agreementThe salary range is $80,000 to $100,000 annually. Starting rates may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Dependent on length of service, hours worked and any applicable collective bargaining agreement, benefits may include healthcare, PTO/Vacation pay and retirement benefits (401(k) eligibility).

What we are searching for
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required 3-5 years experience in a management or manufacturing management role Formal training and/or previous work in various areas of the transportation field preferred. Previous supervisory experience required. Possess thorough knowledge of all warehouse and transportation operations, with good working knowledge of government regulations pertaining to transportation. Possess the ability to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desired results. Possess good communication skills, both oral and written. Deal effectively with a wide variety of people both in person and over the telephone. Must have the ability to represent the Company’s interests in negotiations with outside professionals and consultants. Possess working knowledge of all transportation electronic programs such as “Cams/Prospero, DriveCam, PINC, etc.” Requires the analytical ability to handle administrative duties and mental alertness to ensure accurate, safe, and thorough completion of work activities.
