This is a Transportation Supervisor I position located in the Division 2 Kinston Bridge Yard. The employee in this position supervises the activities of a bridge crew in the maintenance, repair and replacement of bridges, culverts and large diameter pipes. Work includes monitoring and reviewing daily assignments; making adjustments to project plans to meet field conditions, planning, monitoring and ensuring safety standards are adhered to; documenting inventory and equipment usage, making visual bridge inspections, and responding to public inquiries. The employee must be able to install proper traffic control for maintenance activities. This position requires the ability to assist the Transportation Supervisor II in maintaining complete and accurate records on personnel, equipment, and materials in inventory and maintaining sufficient inventory on the facility for general or specific operations. The employee should be able to operate a personal computer. Knowledge of MMS maintenance systems and WIGINS is desirable but not required. This position is subject to emergency call back including snow and ice removal and scheduled night work during adverse weather or other extreme circumstances. Job duties involve working closely with other departments to ensure the assigned projects are completed. The employee will supervise a crew to accomplish daily tasks, understand erosion control plans, and be able to do minor calculations. The employee must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions and maintain effective working relations with other employees. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: + Experience in bridge maintenance and repair, as well as, bridge maintenance equipment operation + Experience in record keeping, such as tracking employee and equipment time and recording quantities of materials used + Experience in planning work and supervising a bridge crew + Experience in Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety Policy and Practices + Experience inspecting bridges for minor maintenance needs Additional Expectations: Must operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker (N) endorsement. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. The employee must be able to lift or carry up to 80 pounds. This job will include work to be performed safely while suspended at moderate heights, confined areas, over water, in water, in extreme heat and cold, and during inclement weather. Safety toe footwear is needed for this position.
