Work is related to the maintenance repair and construction of State-owned fixed and moveable bridges, culverts and pipes within Division 3. This position is technical in nature and labor intensive. Employee will be required to work in diverse working environments in all types of weather conditions. The recommended applicant will work in and around heavy traffic, near heavy equipment and with power tools. The recommended applicant must be able to work in a close team environment or independently, as needed. Recommended applicant must be able to carry and lift up to 100 lbs. occasionally and 50 lbs. frequently. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must meet the Education Requirements and all posting KSAs in order to qualify. Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: + Experience using small hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, posthole diggers, hammer, screwdriver, torch, etc. + Experience performing manual labor Additional Expectations: Position will require climbing, bending and walking on uneven terrain. May require work during non-traditional work hours, including nights, weekends, holidays and times of emergency; includes participating in snow and ice removal. A Class "A" CDL commercial driver license (CDL) will be required within 90 days of employment or employment will be terminated. Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past two years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Safety toe footwear is required within 30 days of employment. Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
