This position is located in the Vance County Bridge Maintenance Unit. Position is manual and equipment operational work involved in the maintenance and replacement of bridges, pipe, and reinforced concrete box culverts. Your work will include a wide variety of skills utilized in the functional areas including carpentry, concrete work, machine operation, contract inspection, repair of bridges/culverts/large pipe & headwalls, sandblasting and painting, demolition work, trenching and shoring, lead paint removal and steel fabrication. Work requires advanced level skills in a variety of functional areas including: equipment operation, pile driving, carpentry, concrete work, machine operation, contract inspect, repair of culverts, bridges, large pipe, bulkheads and pile clusters, sandblasting/painting, demolition work, welding, structure inspect, trenching/shoring, lead paint removal, steel fabrication and steel beam repair, installation and maintenance of erosion control. Ability to obtain welding certificate through On The Job training within 1 year of hire date. Must be willing to attend training and continuing education classes to keep up to date on all state/federal regulations and maintain certifications in all required areas (i.e: traffic control and environmental stewardship). Position will require bending and walking on uneven terrain. May be required to work during non-traditional work hours, including nights, weekends, holidays and times of emergency. Possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License is mandatory for essential duties. CDL can be obtained through on-the-job training with 360 days to obtain a license. Pre-employment drug testing required for this position. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past two years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.
