Position Summary
The Trauma Care Specialist II is responsible for data collection and entry into a defined National Trauma Data Base Registry using concurrent and retrospective review of open and closed medical records. The Trauma Care specialist II is accountable for working with nursing, physicians, and ancillary staff to champion mandated performance improvement/patient safety measures for improvement of evidence based patient outcomes for the trauma patient. The Trauma Care specialist II will meet all the requirements as defined by the American College of Surgeons for Trauma Registrars.
Minimum Requirements
Education
· BS, BSN or BA in healthcare administration, nursing, health informatics or related field with at least seven years of experience in an acute care setting or enrollment and completion of a Bachelor’s Program within two years.
Experience
· Minimum of seven to nine years of acute care experience
· Minimum of two years of experience as a Trauma Registrar
· Proficiency with a Trauma designed Registry Database
· Knowledge of Report Writing in defined Trauma Registry Database
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
· Proficiency with accessing electronic healthcare record systems
License/Registration/Certifications
· Current state licensure in area of health care training if applicable
· Completion of 8 hours of continuing education related to Trauma annually
· Evidence of completion of an AAAM AIS course
· Evidence of completion of an approved Trauma Registry course
· Evidence of completion of Lean Six Sigma Green Belt education or completion within 12 months of employment
· Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) or Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS)
Preferred Requirements
Education
· BS, BSN or BA in healthcare administration, nursing, health informatics or related field
Experience
· Eight years of experience in an acute care Level I Trauma Center
· Five years of experience as a Trauma Registrar
· Proficiency in Report Writing within a defined Trauma Registry Database with development of Trauma Registry reports
License/Registration/Certifications
· Evidence of completion of Lean Six Sigma Green Belt education
Core Job Responsibilities
· Collects and enters data from the electronic medical record into a Trauma database that meets American College of Surgeons requirements
· Functions as a preceptor for new associates and assists the Trauma Registry supervisor in provision of education in complex trauma care abstraction and data analysis
· Applies current data definitions for all NTDB registry data requirements
· Participates in Trauma Registry related committee meetings to include Multidisciplinary Trauma Committee and Trauma Registry Workgroups
· Collaborates with stakeholders that include the Trauma Program Manager, Trauma PI Coordinator, Trauma Program Medical Director, Trauma Registry Supervisor and Clinical Analytics Manager regarding opportunities for improvement and process improvement activities identified through chart review and process improvement activities
· Assists in data validation for defined trauma registry data points as assigned with recommendations for training on identified areas of opportunities
· Assists in mentorship and onboarding coaching for new staff as assigned
· Assists the Trauma Registry Supervisor in report writing activities and report development as assigned
· Presents registry and regulatory measure education to stakeholders as requested
· Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Demonstrates ability to prioritize and complete patient case load in a timely manner
· Demonstrates effective time management skills
· Demonstrates ability to use critical thinking skills and work independently with minimal direction
