We are looking to hire an experienced Trauma Data Registrar to join our team in support of a busy Level II Trauma program.

Saint Alphonsus is the region’s only Level II Trauma Center and provides the highest level of trauma care available in the State of Idaho as well as the State of Orego. Each year we have over 2,000 registry-qualifying patients; we have more than 400 patients per year with an ISS >16.

As a Trauma Data Registrar at Saint Alphonsus, you will work remotely with our team. You are responsible for collecting, abstracting, managing, entering, analyzing, and auditing patient data as required for Saint Alphonsus, the State of Idaho, and national data registries. Trauma Data Registrars need to abide by confidentiality requirements as they relate to the release of individual or aggregate patient information. You will help to create and foster a cooperative teamwork environment. Working effectively in a fast-paced, busy and sometimes stressful environment will be necessary to be successful in this position.

General Requirements:

Experience as a Trauma Registrar strongly preferred.Experience in ICD-10 Inpatient Hospital Coding required.Experience in data collection and management preferred.Previous experience working in Epic preferred.
 

Education:

Associate degree in Health Information Management or related field
OR
at least 4 years of experience as a Trauma Data Registrar required.
Bachelor's degree preferred.Previously attended both the American Trauma Society Trauma Registrar Course and Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine Injury Scaling Course preferred (must attend within 12 months of hire if not previously attended).
 

License/Certification:

Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or related quality / Coding Certification by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) preferred.Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) certification preferred.Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) certification preferred.If not held already, CSTR and CAISS certifications must be obtained within one year of eligible hours worked and experience.
 

Essential Functions:

- Accurately assign diagnosis, procedure, and injury severity codes utilizing ICD-10-CM/PCS, and the Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) coding tools.

- Maintain productivity and accuracy standards as developed and agreed-upon by the registry team and Director of Trauma Services.

- Attend bi-weekly trauma education conference, monthly trauma PIPS, quarterly trauma operations, and any staff/registry meetings.

- Provide statistical data for various departments within Saint Alphonsus, for research, or for special studies.

- Abide by confidentiality requirements as they relate to the release of individual or aggregate patient information.

- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of abstraction and AIS coding guidelines.

- Work with clinical data, adhering to the criteria defined by the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACSCOT), and NTDS.

- Maintain all education requirements set forth by accrediting bodies.

- Interface with Trauma Program Coordinators for clinical data, and on performance improvement processes.

- Using MS Excel and Word, support the team as needed to prepare monthly statistical reports as well as validation reports to ensure data entered is compliant with all standards for defined by Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), ACSCOT, and the NTDS required for benchmarking and accreditation.

- Utilize knowledge in NTDS, TQIP, and ACSCOT standards and ensure that Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center maintains its standing as a Level II Trauma Center.

- Utilize comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, and disease processes in performing job duties.
