Trauma Data Specialist II - Surgery Trauma Support

Founded in 1837, Cuyahoga County’s safety-net health system operates four hospitals, four emergency departments and more than 20 health centers.** **Summary:** **Completes a variety of Trauma Registry tasks, including data collection, data entry and retrieval, data quality and integrity, data analysis, and display and statistical conversion. Interacts with state and regional regulatory agencies to provide required data that ensures the accreditation of the hospital’s designation as a Level I Adult Trauma Center, Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, and accredited Burn Center. Obtains, abstracts, and enters appropriate concurrent and retrospective patient data on trauma and burn patients. Uses Abbreviated Injury Scaling (AIS) coding of injuries to maintain the trauma and burn patient databases. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.** Qualifications: Required: High School Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam. Successful completion of an Abbreviated Injury Scaling (AIS) Coding course. Possess both of the following trauma registrar certifications or obtains within 24 months of hire: • Certified Specialists in Trauma Registries (CSTR) from the American Trauma Society (ATS). • Certified Abbreviated Injury Scaling Specialists (CAISS) from the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM). Possess one or more of the following coding certifications or obtains within 18 months of hire: • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). • Certified Coding Specialists (CCS) from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) from the AHIMA. • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) from the AHIMA. 1 year of experience working as a Trauma Registrar. Knowledge of medical terminology including anatomy and/or physiology. Working knowledge of hospital medical records system(s). Strong PC skills, including strong typing skills. Experience with database entry and maintenance. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong organizational skills. Ability to work independently or as a member of a team. Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Preferred: Experience with ICD-10 coding Experience with EPIC Systems Physical Requirements: May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day. May need to sit or stand for extended periods. See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required. May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion. Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications. Ability to see computer monitor and departmental documents.
