UPMC is looking for a professional nurse possessing a high degree of competence and expertise in trauma nursing care and is an integral member of the healthcare organization of the University Trauma Center of the UPMC. Responsible for collaborating with the Medical Director of Trauma Services, the Program Administrator and the Trauma Case Manager to coordinate the quality improvement activities of the trauma program, act as a role model for trauma care through educational and clinical activities and provide follow-up for referring physicians/agencies.
Responsibilities:
Coordinates activities with the Trauma Program Medical Director and Trauma Program Administrator to facilitate overall quality and consistency. Develop and maintain a set of quality indicators for the trauma program to ensure that staff in all departments dealing I the care of the trauma patient is knowledgeable about the hospital trauma program and standards of care. Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, nonphysician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families. Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment. Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process. Facilitates multidisciplinary performance improvement activities in relation to trauma patient care and outcomes. Develops conceptual framework in collaboration with managers and other staff members to encourage staff development. Demonstrates accountability for professional development that improves the quality of professional practice and the quality of patient care. Collaborates with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Administrator to develop and maintain a set of quality indicators for the trauma program. Integrates trauma quality improvement with the hospital quality program. Reviews PTSF quarterly reports and indicates trends for review. Maintains credentialing data on all trauma practitioners. Performs concurrent medical record monitoring and data collection. Ensures that all components of the trauma program meet the quality assurance standards as established by the hospital. Creates a caring and compassionate patient focused experience by building healthy relationships with patients, families, and colleagues. Maintains all performance improvement documentation including but not limited to patient performance files, mortality and morbidity, and practice guidelines. Manages the data flow process for concurrent quality issues and directs each to appropriate personnel. Assists with organizational preparation of the PTSF survey and application process. Monitors compliance with the PTSF standards related to quality of care. Management of the Pennsylvania Outcomes and Performance Improvement Measurement System (POPIMS). Participates in scholarly activities including writing for publication, abstracts, or poster presentations at conferences. Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by demonstrating accountability for actions, enthusiasm, motivation and commitment to patients and colleagues. Demonstrates an understanding of cultural differences and holds peers accountable for healthy relationships. Maintains a conscious balance between work and personal life. Models safe work hours, time management and healthy lifestyle. Communicates with peers and management any safety hazards identified in the workplace. Aggregates information and data related to trauma care delivery system to insure accurate tracking and trending of trauma data. Collaborates with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to provide prevention programs and promote community awareness. Provide public education regarding injury prevention with activities and materials to the public. Organize and maintain all injury prevention materials. Participate in regional and state injury prevention efforts to address health education issues and improve resource utilization. Is the contact person for all in-house and community requests for trauma prevention materials and/or trainings/lectures. Research, develop, and implement safety programs aimed at decreasing the incidence of injury to designated communities. Provide public education regarding injury prevention with activities and materials to the public. Participates in the development of nursing policies related to the care of the trauma patient. Develops, recommends, and administers policies to provide direction and oversight necessary to insure an efficient and effective patient care and/or services. Establishes and maintains effective work relationship with members of the health care team I order to coordinate and facilitate the delivery of optimal trauma patient care. Serves as a member of related in-hospital, regional, state, and national trauma related committees upon request. Orients new staff as requested.
