Job Description:
The Trauma Outreach and Injury Prevention Coordinator under the direction of the Trauma Program Manager or Trauma Program Director will develop, coordinate, implement. educate and evaluate age-specific trauma prevention/outreach programs to improve regional outcomes from injury by dissemination of knowledge and increasing awareness within the communities served by GSMC.Position Details

Essential Functions
Primary duties reflect responsibility for planning and managing the hospital’s community injury prevention and trauma education/outreach program to improve awareness and increase support within the community we serve.Responsible for identifying, establishing and maintaining relationships with affiliated referring hospitals staff, Emergency Medical Service agencies and communities throughout our region.Participates in trauma case review while standardizing trauma practice guidelines.Develops and implements all trauma injury prevention activities involving pediatric, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.This role will require additional responsibilities related to promotion of trauma standards of care according to nationally accepted American College of Surgeon’s (ACS) guidelines.Functions as Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral and Treatment (SBIRT) Program Coordinator.Educates community members on injury prevention. Educates other healthcare providers on injury prevention including holding ‘train the trainer’ courses.Skills

Licensed Registered Nurse in state of practice. · BLS, TNCC, TCAR or CATN.Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.Demonstrated critical care and/or trauma/emergency experience in the care of trauma patients.Familiarity with EMS system, State of Colorado Trauma System, and local / state / national governing bodies responsible for the care of trauma patients (i.e., SEMTAC, ACS).Familiarity with Injury PreventionExperience in program development, teaching, and public speaking.Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are essential.Proven ability to organize multiple, complex tasks required.Proven ability to function independently with minimal supervision is required.Proven capability to be self-directed.Basic computer literacy – including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPointPreferred Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred in nursing, business or related field.Previous experience in an injury prevention program.Minimum requirement of a bachelor’s degree in nursing, business or related field.Minimum three years of critical care and/or trauma/emergency experience in the care of trauma patients.Current certification and preferred Instructor in at least (2): Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) &/or Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) &/or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC).Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)Experience using and producing reports from trauma registryExperience with producing PowerPoint presentationPrevious Injury Prevention and Outreach Coordinator experience.CEN, CATN, TCAR and TCRN.TNCC/ENPC/ACLS/BTLS/PALS instructor status, ATCN coordinator, TNCC/ENPC Course DirectorPhysical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
