Travel Packaging Engineer
Job Description Insight Global is seeking a temporary Traveling Packaging Engineer to support an established food and beverage company out of the Chicagoland area. This individual will support a resealable flexible film project for one of the company's meat product lines. They will be tasked with packaging quality control and specification management across 2-3 plant locations (Newberry, SC; or Davenport, IA). Day to Day: Inspection and Quality Control: Conduct regular inspections of packaging lines to identify defects such as leaks, improper sealing, or incorrect labeling. Use various testing methods and equipment to ensure packaging meets industry standards and regulations. Data Collection and Analysis: Collect data on packaging defects and analyze trends to identify recurring issues. Prepare detailed reports on findings and recommend corrective actions. Collaboration with Plant & Corporate Teams: Work closely with plant managers, quality control teams, and production staff to address packaging issues. Provide training and guidance on best practices for packaging to minimize defects. Report findings to corporate team. Implementation of Solutions: Develop and implement solutions to packaging problems, including adjustments to machinery or changes in materials. Monitor the effectiveness of implemented solutions and make further adjustments as needed. Compliance and Documentation: Ensure all packaging processes comply with food safety regulations and company standards. Maintain accurate records of inspections, defects, and corrective actions taken. Travel and Coordination: Travel between multiple manufacturing plants as required, coordinating visits and inspections. Manage travel schedules and logistics to ensure efficient use of time and resources. Skills and Requirements Bachelor's degree. 1+ years of experience as a Packaging Engineer. OR 3+ years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer or Quality Engineer. Proven background in the food and beverage or related industry. Strong problem-solving skills--must be familiar with a problem-solving methodology (8D, CAPA, 5 Why's, etc.). Demonstrated attention to detail when it comes to defect identification and issue management. Excellent communication skills--both written and oral to alert the team of defects as they arise. Experience with thermoforming. Experience with rigid or flexible plastics.
