Traveling Heavy Equipment Mechanic
**Job Title: Traveling Mechanic** **Job Description** The Technician is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, reconditioning, overhaul, and maintenance of customer and company heavy equipment. This role primarily involves working with CAT equipment and some Komatsu equipment, ensuring all tasks are completed in a manner that reflects the company's vision of working as 'One Professional Team.' **Responsibilities** + Use safe working practices and follow all company safety requirements. + Communicate effectively to ensure all repairs are completed correctly and timely. + Diagnose, repair, overhaul, tune, and perform maintenance on Caterpillar diesel and gas engines, generators, air compressors, and related equipment. + Perform work accurately within the estimate. + Assist with scheduled Top End or Complete engine overhauls. + Assist with engine removal/installation before and after shop overhauls. + Perform startup of newly installed engines. + Make parts replacement decisions based on reusability guidelines. + Effectively communicate recommendations for repairs, both warrantable and non-warrantable. + Promote additional work and services to customers as needed. + Use Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) and Service Information System (SIS) to diagnose and repair equipment with minimal supervision. + Understand Caterpillar electronic engine control systems and properly troubleshoot and repair these systems. + Use Caterpillar’s Service Information System (SIS), Technical Marketing Information (TMI), Dealer Business Systems (DBS), and Microsoft Outlook. + Prepare and complete all related inspection forms for repairs, maintenance, warranty, and startup documents for new equipment. + Keep and maintain all information in an orderly fashion while on a job, and utilize current processes and forms to retain and track information. + Turn in parts credits, core credits, fluid samples, and receive signed documents for warranty parts and core returns from proper warehouse personnel. + Perform other duties as assigned by the manager. **Essential Skills** + Mechanical skills including preventive maintenance, hydraulics, and engine repair. + Experience with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostics equipment. + Ability to perform diesel repair, equipment repair, and engine overhaul. + Competency in using Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET), Service Information System (SIS), and other technical systems. + Experience with electrical, pneumatics, and blueprint reading. + Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot and repair heavy equipment. **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Graduation from an accredited technical school in diesel engine or earthmoving repair preferred. + Experience in heavy equipment and engine repair. + Must own a significant amount of tools. **Why Work Here?** This opportunity allows you to work in a newly remodeled, climate-controlled service shop with modern workstations. This is a contract-to-hire position with potential for permanent employment after six months. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00 Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
