Job Overview: The Treasury Chief Operating Officer (COO) will report into the Treasurer at Northern Trust and will provide leadership and guidance to the department by coordinating strategic cross-functional data and technology projects, risk and compliance programs, and regulatory initiatives.   The Treasury COO will improve efficiency, effectiveness, risk performance and productivity working closely with and in consultation with the Treasury leadership team. This role will also have strong interaction with stakeholder groups such as Risk, Audit, Data, Technology, Finance and Compliance and may represent the Treasury department on key internal oversight committees. The ideal candidate will have advanced data and technology project management skills, deep knowledge of treasury banking risk management requirements, and experience leading successful cross functional efforts.   Major Duties: Plan and direct strategic activities including prioritizing and selecting the right projects with overall responsibility for meeting business objectives. Direct the development of programs, policies and practices, and corporate/administration services to improve operational performance. Provide leadership and guidance to staff, fostering an environment that encourages employee participation, teamwork, and communication. Identify and solve complex, operational, and organizational problems leveraging the appropriate resources within or outside the department. Partner with multiple stakeholders across Treasury, Compliance, Finance, Operations, Technology, Legal and Risk to achieve business unit goals. Collaborate with IT in setting up and maintaining treasury technology solutions, including required interfaces and integrations with other enterprise systems, to support treasury activities. Lead IT/Data enhancement initiatives including consulting on business requirements, evaluating overall budget, overseeing testing, and facilitating escalation of issues. Provide overall coordination for the Treasury department regulatory engagement. Maintain a comprehensive risk assessment and process management for all Treasury related activities. Ensure the business operates in compliance with all internal and regulatory standards leading efforts to ensure key controls are appropriately tested and results are documented and remediated as required. Assist in internal audit, risk management, compliance, and regulatory reviews, working with subject matter experts to provide materials and addressing concerns arising from these reviews  Represents the Treasury department on internal oversight committees as needed. 

Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. 10+ years of experience in treasury, finance, or a related field, preferably in a global financial services environment, with a track record of increased responsibilities. Strong knowledge of data, technology, and reporting design. Knowledge of Treasury function, liquidity, and asset & liability management (ALM) processes, as well as fixed income and derivative products. Strong understanding of the regulatory landscape, and strong command of risks and controls Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to work collaboratively across departments and lead treasury initiatives with solid experience in managing complex and cross-functional programs/projects on a global scale. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient in MS Office Suite including advanced Excel and PowerPoint.
