Truck Driver/Transloader - Birmingham, AL
This is a full-time, hourly position.
Job Summary:
May be scheduled on weekends and holidays.
The driver must be able to plan trips breaks, fuel stops, customer appointments, weather, traffic & construction, city and rural driving conditions and manage unforeseen circumstances. The driver will sit for extended periods of time while traveling. Equipment can include but is not limited to semi-truck, tank trailers, dry van, and pneumatic, pumps, hoses, and valves. Driver will be responsible for safely and efficiently transferring, loading and unloading product according to company and customer instructions. Weekly mileages can and do fluctuate.
Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following:Perform a daily equipment inspection with the ability to detect mechanical defects & document. Follow posted speed limits and other roadway signageOperate in-cab computer systems. Keep dispatch and other company officials updated with ETA and other pertinent information.Drivers are required to work and adapt to potentially stressful situations, traffic, customer delays, weather conditions.Interact regularly with peers and management to pursue continuous improvement of terminal operations and promote a teamwork focused environment. Communicate with team/shift employees concerning proper operation of equipment, safety concerns and maintenance issues.Cranking of dolly legs. Pulling 5th wheels pinsAscending and descending tractor cabs and trailers. Drivers may be required to operate equipment up to 14 hours a day to include 11 hours of driving; hours will not exceed 70 hours in the previous 8 days. Job Duties may include bending, stooping or lifting repeatedly. Working at heights that exceed 13 feet high to check and seal dome lids at top of trailer.Operating equipment associated with the transloading process for bulk flour. Handle and connect hosesOperate valves. Couple and uncouple trailers. Climbing carabis system and using company issued fall protection.Education/Training:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Experience:Must be 24 years of age.Two years verifiable over the road or local tractor trailer experience within the last seven years.No more than one chargeable accident within the last three years.No more than one moving violation ticket in the last three years.No DUI convictions. No conviction for unlawful use, possession or distribution of a controlled substance and no positive controlled substance/alcohol tests from prior employers.Certifications with Licenses Required:CDL with proper endorsements for your operation.Current FMCSA medical certification.

This position requires the successful completion of a DOT background check and DOT physical and drug screen.
