Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants. **Requisition ID:** 39545BR **Travel Required:** None **Major/Essential Functions:** + Contribute to the NIH/NIA-funded project, R01AG084597 titled “Glycemic control and frailty risk in older people at risk for type 2 diabetes: Impact of local heat therapy”, under the direction of Drs. Levitt and Luk. + Optimization and hands-on troubleshooting of protocols and methods. + Carry out laboratory experiments with appropriate documentation. + Lab maintenance (e.g., safety records, inventory, routine) and organization. + Assist other members of the laboratory team in experiments. + Monitor adherence to safe laboratory practices. + Other duties as assigned. **Grant Funded?:** Yes **Minimum Hire Rate:** 15.80 **Pay Basis:** Hourly **Schedule Details:** Typically works days; occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for certain experiments. In these cases, the Research Aide's weekday schedule may be adjusted so that they do not exceed 40 hrs per week. **Work Location:** Lubbock **Preferred Qualifications:** + Strong pipetting skills. + Experience or familiarity with cell culture and/or blood, cell, or tissue analyses. + Familiarity with skeletal muscle physiology and metabolism. + Familiarity with one or more of the following techniques: Western blotting, immunohistochemistry or immunofluorescence, ELISAs or EIAs, qPCR, microscopy (bright field, fluorescence, confocal, and/or electron). + Experience with safety procedures and personal protective equipment. **Department:** Kinesiology and Sport Management **Required Attachments:** Cover Letter, Professional/Personal References, Resume / CV **Job Type:** Full Time **Job Group:** Research Technicians **Shift:** Day **Required Qualifications:** Bachelor's degree in a specialized field and one year research experience. The department enrolls over 400 undergraduate students in the B.S. in Sport Management and over 50 master’s degree students in the M.S. in Sport Management. It also offers a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology.
