Turquoise Ridge - Hydrologist

 

Position Description:

We are looking for a Hydrologist to join the Turquoise Ridge operations.  The successful candidate will Support development of hydrology, hydrogeologic, and geologic structure models.

Responsibilities:

 

Applying knowledge of fundamental geology to develop an understanding of how the rock types and structure in an area impact on groundwater occurrence and movement. Develop knowledge of the local permeable structures and hydrogeology. Coordinate hydrogeological data collection related to mine excavations and surroundings (water flows, water intersections, water chemistry, TDS etc.) and interpretation. Manage dewatering and monitoring well drilling, design, and data capture Conduct/lead hydrologic investigations such as pumping tests, spinner logs, infiltration studies, vibrating wire piezometer measures, etc., collect and analyze data and prepare reports and documents. Designing and commissioning boreholes, and sampling and measuring groundwater and surface water Support hydrogeological drilling programs and manage depressurization strategies. Engage in growth meetings and develop future dewatering strategies and pilot drilling programs. Understanding and interpreting maps, geographical data, historical evidence and models to build up a picture of the groundwater regime and/or land contamination, often based on incomplete information. Develop and implement procedures to reduce mine water inflow (grouting procedures, etc). Ensure that all water inrush are inspected, investigated and reported.

Support dewatering and site water balance management:

Design and implement short to long-term hydrogeological programs to meet Life of Mine needs and mitigate risks to operations. Assist with engineering and construction projects for site water management such as construction of new ponds, pipelines, etc. Assist in the design of mine sumps and pumping systems and provide the related plans for implementation. Develop and implement procedures to reduce mine water inflow (grouting procedures, etc). Ensure that all water inrush are inspected, investigated and reported. Ensuring dewatering system audits are carried out regularly documented and reported. Maintain awareness of site water rights and permits. Convey any changes to water management system to site water balance managers/environmental representatives in a timely fashion. Comply with state and federal health and safety regulations and all company policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned

 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Bachelor’s Degree in hydrology, hydrogeology, geology, engineering, or related field is required. Masters preferred.  Minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of verifiable experience in hydrology, hydrogeology, geology, engineering, and/or dewatering required. Experience with dewatering systems, hydrologic and hydrogeologic principles, and hydrologic modeling preferred. Direct experience with well drilling, preferably with deep, large diameter, large volume production/dewatering wells preferred. Management skills for high budget projects (>$1M). High level of computer skills for data management and reporting (Excel, Word, PowerPoint proficiency required) (Pumpsim, ModFlow, AutoCad, MineCad Deswik, database systems, and other hydrogeology modelling tools familiarity preferred) Experience with water rights and regulatory compliance issues in the state of Nevada preferred. Excellent communication skills and ability to work with other departments, contractors, stakeholders, and regulators. Experience with various surface and groundwater sampling techniques preferred. Ability to think of creative and innovative solutions to water management issues while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirement preferred. Ability to manage and mentor employees in the hydrology preferred.
