JOB PURPOSE
Working in close collaboration with Mine and Process Managers, the Manager, Maintenance Engineering oversees the integrity and statutory requirements of fixed and mobile assets, key infrastructure improvement plans, mobile fleet performance improvement, and reliability processes for underground, surface mining and processing facilities.
The role leads the engineering and reliability teams across the site to drive a program of work in support of improved equipment reliability, asset integrity, compliance, process safety and asset performance. The role is accountable for engineering standards, compliance, management of change and document control, and is responsible for administering the site-wide critical risk register. The division-based engineering teams own the technical specifications of the fixed plant and mobile equipment infrastructure including processing facilities, vertical transport, utilities, backfill, and paste fill plants and related responsibilities. However, this role ensures the provision of quality in-house technical expertise. The Manager, Maintenance Engineering is also responsible for the development and management of the sustaining capital plan for the infrastructure and key fleets, budgets and forecasts, and supporting the site managers in the prioritization of projects for maximum business benefit. The role has “dotted line” oversight to underground, surface, and process maintenance planning and execution.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Drive safety mindset through Visible Felt Leadership and engagement of front-line teams, ensuring effective participation by the engineering team in site programs including field level risk assessments (FLRA), Team Risk Assessments, Field Interactions and Fatal Risk Audits. Manage the Critical Risk Register for the fixed plant, mobile equipment, and electrical infrastructure and oversee the management of Critical Controls pertaining to Critical Risks and Process Safety. Oversee and support the investigation of equipment failures and the development of solutions in the context of improved operations and maintenance practices or equipment upgrades. Manage and ensure the effectiveness of the Management-of-Change (MOC) process related to site infrastructure. Manage a program of improvement projects and ensure quality and efficiency at all project stages -- planning, justification, design, approval, construction, commissioning and turnover – ensuring the application of both company practices as well as industry codes and standards. Ensure effective project management across the team’s portfolio of projects and manage the interface with the Capital Projects team on larger projects to ensure seamless development, execution, and operational readiness. Oversee the work of a multi-disciplinary cross-functional team to support mechanical, instrumentation, automation, and electrical replacements and upgrades, and ensure quality engineering outputs and document management. Research and evaluate new technologies and applications; recommend improvement opportunities based on the evaluation and gain buy-in or consensus from stakeholders. Manage the performance of team members and ensure team development and succession planning.QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
A minimum of 12 years of experience in a relevant engineering capacity are necessary, including supervising an engineering function and project management. At least 5 of the 12 years at an operating mine site. Proven foundations in: routine maintenance work management processes; reliability improvement methodologies; HAZOP, FMEA, FMECA analyses Proven leadership skills and supervisory experience are required. Project management knowledge and experience is required. Knowledge of mining operations and associated infrastructure. Knowledge of all engineering major risks and critical controls. Familiarity with safety management programs and practices preferred. Experience with managing contractors and contract management is preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills are required. The ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative team environment is required. Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of this job is required.Education
Bachelor of Applied Science or Engineering, or similar equivalent, is required. In lieu of an engineering degree, an Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology, Reliability Centered Maintenance, or similar field coupled with proven maintenance field experience with certifications will be considered.
