**Description**
The **CMT (Construction Materials Testing) Department Engineer** is responsible for overseeing the testing and inspection of construction materials to ensure they meet project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations. This role involves managing a team of technicians, conducting quality assurance on materials like soil, concrete, and steel, and collaborating with project managers, contractors, and engineers.

**Key Responsibilities:**
1. **Material Testing and Analysis** :
2. Oversee and conduct field and laboratory tests on construction materials, including soil, concrete, aggregates, and structural steel.
3. Analyze test results to ensure materials comply with project specifications, industry standards (ASTM, AASHTO), and regulatory requirements.
4. Identify any non-compliance and recommend corrective actions.
5. **Project Management** :
6. Manage CMT projects from inception to completion, including planning, coordinating, and scheduling fieldwork and laboratory activities.
7. Liaise with contractors, construction teams, and project managers to ensure timely completion of testing and inspection.
8. Prepare and review project reports, summaries, and data analysis for clients, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
9. **Field Supervision and Inspection** :
10. Supervise and mentor field and laboratory technicians, ensuring that proper testing methods and protocols are followed.
11. Perform on-site inspections to verify compliance with construction specifications, including foundation work, concrete pours, compaction testing, and paving operations.
12. Ensure safety standards and procedures are adhered to during fieldwork.
13. **Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC)** :
14. Implement and maintain QA/QC processes for construction materials and testing procedures.
15. Review field and lab data for accuracy and consistency, ensuring reliable results.
16. Provide recommendations for improvements in testing procedures or materials to enhance project quality.
17. **Client and Team Communication** :
18. Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing updates, technical support, and addressing any concerns related to material testing.
19. Collaborate with design engineers, geotechnical teams, and other departments to provide feedback on material performance and suitability.
20. Attend project meetings to discuss material testing results and their implications for ongoing construction.
1. **Documentation and Compliance** :
2. Ensure all test results and inspections are accurately documented and filed in compliance with internal and external audit requirements.
3. Stay updated on the latest codes, regulations, and testing standards to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
4. Prepare technical reports, including analysis, recommendations, and summaries of material testing results.
**Required Skills and Qualifications:**
+ **Educational Background** : Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
+ **Licenses and Certifications** :
+ PE (Professional Engineer) license
+ Certifications in materials testing, such as ACI (American Concrete Institute), NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies), or ICC (International Code Council), are preferred.
+ **Experience** : 5+ years of experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical engineering, or construction engineering.
+ **Technical Skills** :
+ Proficiency in materials testing methods and standards (e.g., ASTM, AASHTO, DOT).
+ Knowledge of testing equipment for soil compaction, concrete strength.
+ Familiarity with software for data analysis and reporting (e.g., AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel).
+ **Soft Skills** :
+ Strong project management and organizational skills.
+ Excellent communication skills for client interaction and report preparation.
+ Problem-solving abilities to address material failures or testing discrepancies.
+ Leadership and mentoring skills to manage and train technicians.
**Work Environment:**
+ This role involves a mix of **fieldwork** (on construction sites) and **office-based work** (managing data, reports, and communication). Fieldwork can involve being outdoors in varying weather conditions and may require travel to different project sites.
+ Physical requirements may include walking on uneven terrain, lifting testing equipment, and working in proximity to heavy machinery.
