The Joint, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Interagency Division (JOID) provides expert support services to a range of customers spanning across the Department of Defense, Federal, Civilian, and International markets. JOID provides a diverse portfolio of analytical and programmatic capabilities to help our customers make informed decisions on their most challenging issues.

 

NATO HQ SACT's Innovation Lab (iHub), built on the concept of Open Innovation, provides to its operational customers a catalogue of innovative products and services. The iHub products, also known as Minimum Viable Products (MVPs), are developed following best industry, Agile DevSecOps methods with a strong focus on rapid, iterative delivery that meets customers’ requirements.

 

SPA has an immediate need for a UI/UX Designer to support HQ SACT's Innovation Hub onsite in Norfolk, VA.

Responsibilities

The onsite UX/UI Designer & Multimedia Specialist will be responsible for utilizing Human Centered Design in the management and creation of digital assets and new projects for the Innovation Hub. In this multifaceted position, the successful candidate will create and manage new digital artifacts as well as work closely with project managers to support new innovation projects including building wireframes, designing graphic user interface elements, and developing content for training initiatives. The candidate will create visually captivating marketing materials (banners, trifolds, flyers, etc.), presentations, and graphic design collateral to support branch initiatives across various areas, including marketing efforts, internal strategic communication, and collaborative projects with partners. Will support our WordPress website including writing blog posts and collaborating with community managers. Will apply a user-centric approach to their work in creating strong visual communications skills to convey complex concepts and data through images, videos, and other digital artifacts. Will collaborate with other UX/UI Designers and product teams to gain an understanding of the ongoing Minimum Viable Products being produced by the Innovation Hub.

Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor's degree in Human Computer Interaction, Information Science, Human Factors, Human Centered Design and Engineering, or related discipline; OR 5 years of experience as a UI/UX DesignerStrong experience in the development of artifacts such as sketches, prototypes, high-fidelity mock-ups, motion design, and project documentationProficient in a variety of design and prototyping tools — Sketch, Miro, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Axure, or othersKnowledge of Section 508 and W3C WCAG 2.0 guidelinesExperience with graphic design and design software, such as Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Figma, and DreamweaverExperience creating videos using tools like AdobeExperience working with teams embracing Agile DevSecOps principlesStrong skills with User Centered Design (UCD) methodsAble to work with a balanced team approach sharing context and decisionsAble to work with the Product Manager (PM) to iterate on the backlogFlexible with dynamic changes to the productExcellent management, communication, and presentation skillsExperience collaborating with a team of programmers with a varying of skillsetsExperience working in a rapid and interactive development environmentUI Design, UX Design, User Experience Analyst, or Customer-Centered Design Certification
