**Job Description** **Ultrasound Tech - Staten Island Multispecialty - Full Time - Day - OFFSITE** The Ultrasound Technologist performs or assists in ultrasound examinations and procedures, renders technical assistance to the Radiologist, and maintains and cares for all ultrasound equipment. **Qualifications** + Associates degree (AA) or equivalent from a college or technical school + 0-2 years of experience as Ultrasound Technician. + SPI Certification and a graduate from an accredited Ultrasound Technician program and will complete the ARDMS within one year of hire. **American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)** RVT certification must also be completed within one year of hire. , M1J - Staten Island Multispecialty OFFS - MSH, Mount Sinai Hospital **Responsibilities** + Prepares and examines all patients, verifying their identity for ultrasound examinations in accordance with established departmental procedures and techniques, which includes obtaining health status and medical history, patient’s cooperation or ability to tolerate the examination. Confirms that the ultrasound examination correlates with patient clinical history and presentation. Inform physician in charge of any contraindications or changes needed to the procedure. + Communicates with the patient explaining the exam and instructions, answering questions that are unrelated to specific diagnostic, treatment and/or prognosis. + Develops and/or modifies a procedure plan from health status and medical history, using age and gender appropriate considerations. Uses independent professional judgment to adopt the procedure plan to optimize exam results. Performs exams under general or direct physician supervision as defined by the procedure, adjusting scanning technique to optimize image qualify and spectral waveform characteristics. + Analyzes sonographic findings so comprehensive exams sufficient for a physician to direct patient management and render a diagnosis can be obtained. Perform measurements and calculations according to laboratory and ACR protocols and guidelines. Minimize patient exposure to acoustic energy without compromising exam quality or completeness. + Notifies appropriate health care provider when immediate medical attention is needed. Evaluates patient's physical and mental status prior to discharge from the ultrasound department. + Records diagnostic images and data for use by the interpreting physician in rendering a diagnosis and for archival purposes. Provides a written summary of preliminary findings to the radiologist. + Applies the necessary technical judgment to obtain studies of an acceptable diagnostic quality according to written protocols and the patients’ needs. + Assists, prepares and positions patients as required to perform Ultrasound procedures. + Provides patient education relevant to specific imaging procedures by informing the patient of the nature of the procedure, the area to be imaged and any specific instructions the patient may need. + Ensures all images are appropriately labeled as specified by the department SOP. + Assists with QA/QC program ensuring compliance with all regulatory agency requirements. + Assists physician directly as required during procedures (e.g., Biopsies, MSK injections, etc.) + Ensures images are transmitted to PACS in a timely fashion. + Ensures Ultrasound room and equipment cleanliness, at the start and at the end of the shift, to include removal of soiled or dirty linen. + Maintains supplies and accessories in imaging room necessary to safely perform duties, as required. + Accurately records all required patient tracking information, and exam notes into Epic Radiant + Ensures that all studies performed are correct and completed in Epic Radiant and PACS immediately after completion of exam. + Performs related clerical duties in the absence of support personnel. + Informs supervisor or appropriate personnel of needed repairs to equipment or unsafe conditions. + Prevents the spread of infection to self, patients, visitors, and other employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocol. + Attends in-services and other professional development meetings as required. + Maintains appropriate Continuing Medical Education credits. + Performs related clerical duties in the absence of support personnel. **About Us** **Strength Through Diversity** The Mount Sinai Health System believes that diversity, equity, and inclusion are key drivers for excellence. The salary range for the role is $41 - $54 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need.
